Join our Environment and Sustainability Team at NHSBSA as an Environment Advisor.This role offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to support the development and delivery of the NHSBSA Environment Strategy and action plan.You will lead on key aspects including the maintenance and enhancement of our organisation-wide Environmental Management System certified to ISO14001.You will work alongside multiple teams across the NHSBSA to drive environmental improvements and have the opportunity to shape and oversee the organisation’s carbon management plan.Main duties of the jobSupport the Environment and Sustainability Lead in the development and delivery of the NHSBSA environment strategy.Work in partnership with the Estates Senior Management Team to design and oversee the organisations carbon management plan.Maintain and enhance the NHSBSA’s Environmental Management System (EMS).Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, government mandate and proceduresDevelop and implement environment and sustainability policies, procedures, guidance and systemsDevelop the NHSBSA environmental reporting framework to measure and monitor the performance of NHSBSA environmental targets, and oversee the organisation’s reporting regimes.Provide relevant insight and critical analysis related to the NHSBSAs Environment Strategy and key impactsAbout usHere at the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA), what we do matters.We manage the NHS Pension scheme, process prescription payments and much more.   • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience/qualification) in a relevant subject
  • Evidence of on-going continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject
  • IEMA or other equivalent membership of professional body.

KnowledgeEssential

  • Working knowledge of environment and sustainability, law, policies and standards.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of best practice relating to environment and sustainability
  • Working knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (e.g. ISO 14001).
  • Working knowledge of carbon accounting standards and greenhouse gas emission reduction
  • Ability to assess potential legal risks and problems and make sound judgements around issues that may have an adverse effect on the business from environment and sustainability perspectives.
  • Experience of chairing meetings and large forums
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues, managers, and external organisations.
  • Strong influencing, negotiating and conflict management skills – able to challenge managers and staff.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and programmes of work
  • Proactive, confident, enthusiastic, and ability to use initiative.
  • Ability to use evidence-based practice to develop solutions to meet business need.

  • Experience of developing and implementing programmes of work and initiatives
  • Experience of chairing meetings, large forums and networks.
  • Project management experience such as delivering objectives and aims set out in delivery/action plans.
  • Data analysis: using an evidence-based approach to underpin decision making, to make improvements and recommendations.
