This position is designated as Fully Remote and is not expected to work from our World Headquarters (unless occasionally necessary for meetings/trainings, etc.). All employees classified as fully remote may work from any of the states where Rotary currently has employees, which includes: IL, CA, IN, OR, LA, NC, MN, WI, TN, TX, MI, GA, VA, MA, RI, and AZ (these are states where Rotary is currently registered as an employer).

Overview
The Partnership Specialist, Rotary-UNEP, is in the Programs and Grants area, which includes the Areas of Focus, Service and Engagement, and Rotary Grants, among others. This position is responsible for supporting the Environment Area of Focus Manager with Rotary International’s strategic partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the coordination of various participants in the implementation of the partnership’s programming via Rotary. The Rotary-UNEP partnership is a long-term* headquarter-level commitment to community-based environmental collaboration, with an initial focus on rivers and watersheds through the Community Action for Fresh Water (CAFW) initiative. Rotary members access resources, networks, and opportunities to counter threats to bodies of water around the world.
The position will facilitate communication to Rotary audiences, support and develop regional activities, and liaise with volunteers in the technical community of practice. The Specialist will collaborate with diverse colleagues to solve problems, organize project information, and implement science communication that supports the partnership’s goals.
*The partnership is active for 3 years through October 2026 with possibility of extension.
You Will Have
- A Bachelor’s degree in international development, environmental science, natural sciences, environmental studies, international relations, non-profit management or other relevant areas, or equivalent work experience
- Two or more years of experience related to environmental, climate, or water programs or equivalent, ideally with programs that are community- or civil society-led
- Experience in the nonprofit sector, or experience working with international organizations or external partnerships
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Strong multicultural sensitivity and deep appreciation of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- English fluency
- Ability to speak another one of Rotary’s official languages is an asset
- Prior study, work, or volunteering experience outside your country of origin (desirable)

You Will Be Responsible For
Partnership Administration
- Working with the Environment Area of Focus Manager and Impact Marketing and Communications Advisor, you will manage several day-to-day aspects of the CAFW initiative, including contacts, operational procedures and protocols, communications, and coordination
- Supporting a response system for inquiries from volunteers about the CAFW initiative and workflow for engaging interested parties
- Facilitating virtual events and sessions
- Coordinating and guiding the technical community of practice on partnership reach, troubleshooting, information sharing, and team goals during and outside their meetings
- Coordinating with programmatic and communications staff from UNEP
- Working closely with the following teams internally: Communications, Areas of Focus, International Operations, Web, and others
- Attending meetings between UNEP and Rotary
Environmental and Program Communications
- Managing member-facing communications
- Monitoring an institutional email inbox for the partnership and occasional mass communication to participants
- Performing outreach with clubs and river projects “registered” with the CAFW initiative
- Advancing interdepartmental coordination and collaboration around the partnership
- Collaborating with the Environment Area of Focus Manager and Impact Marketing and Communications Advisor, to review key communications to be delivered to Rotary audiences about CAFW.
- Summarizing updates and relaying information between different stakeholders
Citizen Science Support
- Contributing to the collection and maintenance of data from projects in the initiative
- Monitoring content and data availability on Rotary-UNEP website
- Fostering common techniques and a watershed focus amongst the technical community of practice and other initiative participants
