- Participating in dialogue with representatives of Indigenous communities at the staff.
- Consulting through meetings, site visits and virtual appointments.
- Communicating in culturally appropriate language all activities of interest at CNL.
- Preparing communication and training material for representatives of the different Indigenous groups on Valued Components at Chalk River Laboratories.
- Facilitating discussions with the different Indigenous groups.
- Maintaining effective, collaborative relationships with Environmental Remediation, Corporate Affairs teams, and individual staff to help ensure the settings and achievements of joint objectives.
- Maintaining up-to-date understanding of technical and environmental project details, schedules and activities.
- Conducting field work.
- Editing documents such as the Forest Management Plan.
- Developing protocols for monitoring Valued Components of interest not currently monitored such as moose and deer population and habitat, and ensuring integration in the Corporate Environmental Protection Program documents.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Honours Bachelor in Biology, Science, Environmental Studies or related field from a university of recognized standing or membership in scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Experience
- At least 5 years in the environmental field with demonstrated increase in responsibility.
- Work experience with Indigenous communities.
- Experience with wildlife management best industry practices.
- Work experience in engagement initiatives is required.
- Experience in the development process of a Forest Management Plan, wildlife habitat modelling tools and stakeholder engagement is desirable.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent knowledge of Federal and Ontario environmental laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of species at risk identification, ecology, habitat description, major threats and survey protocols.
- Mapping software such as MapInfo or ArcGIS.
- Excellent communication and public presentation skills.
- Effective written communication skills is required to capture the outcome and resolution of engagement initiatives.
- Effective interaction with managers, project teams, regulatory affairs, Indigenous communities, and support groups.
- Ability to assess work conditions and quickly identify non-compliances and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Some knowledge of ISO-14001 standards and its application is desirable.
- Familiarity with use of data management and project management software.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft office software including Access, Excel and Word.
- Work experience in a nuclear facility would be desirable.
- Work experience in field inspection to ensure compliance with Federal requirements is required.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
