Our client is seeking an Estate & Grounds Maintenance Assistant to join their estate team to support in the day-to-day upkeep of a large country estate and commercial properties in the Cotswolds, near Cheltenham. As part of an exceptional team, this role would suit a hardworking, hands on, individual with a positive pro-active attitude.The role involves general estate maintenance and upkeep, working closely with the Estate Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the estate and carry out practical day-to-day tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for upholding all health and safety regulations as outlined by the Estate Manager. Additionally, the role requires acting as the primary point of contact for any minor repairs, ensuring that all maintenance needs are addressed promptly and efficiently.Key tasks include car cleaning and basic maintenance as well as occasional driving duties. The Grounds Maintenance Assistant will maintain property exteriors, including clearing gutters, checking and cleaning security cameras, and supporting the gardening team with routine tasks such as watering, weeding, mowing lawns and operating machinery for groundskeeping tasks. In addition, the Grounds Maintenance Assistant will be involved in promoting and protecting the habitats of endangered species living on the estate, as well as maintaining and repairing boundary walls and fences.The candidate will act as a go-to person for all fixing and maintenance issues alongside the Estate Manager in duties such as assisting with waste management across the estate and commercial properties, handling minor repairs such as fixing light sockets, and unblocking sinks, as well as carrying out general basic installation work. Simple painting and decorating tasks, minor plumbing repairs and minor carpentry work will also be part of the role. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards across the estate, supporting path and drive maintenance, and assisting with the care of estate animals, including chickens and horses.The ideal candidate will demonstrate the relevant practical skills needed to support the general maintenance and upkeep of both the estate and commercial properties. A solid understanding of groundwork skills and machinery operation is required, with the necessary certificates in place. A full, clean driving licence is essential, along with the ability to competently drive 4×4 vehicles, tow trailers, and operate machinery. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure are key attributes for success in this role. Given the physical demands of the job, candidates must be physically fit and have a practical, pro-active approach with the ability to adapt to a variety of tasks. Proven experience working on large estates or in similar environments, such as a busy working farm, is also required.The role is full-time (40 hours per week) Monday – Friday. Occasional weekend may be required to prepare for key family events for which time off in lieu will be given.
