ABOUT SDSNThe UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. We aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world. SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society. SDSN is directed by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs and operates through offices in New York, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur.ABOUT THE CONSULTANCYReporting to the Head of Communications and External Relations, the Events Consultant will provide critical events, logistical, and promotional support in the lead up to SDSN’s September 2024 events in New York, including its Pre-Summit of the Future conference, Leadership Council meeting, and Network Chairs Meeting. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record of events organization and management, exceptional organizational and time management skills, and a passion for sustainable development.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Head of Communications and External Relations in project managing all aspects of event coordination and attendee experience for a range of hybrid meetings, including SDSN’s high-level Pre-Summit of the Future conference from logistics to programming, including oversite of speaker preparation and onsite execution.
  • Manage relationships with various vendors to fulfill catering, venue, photography and audio/visual needs for on-site events.
  • Liaise with programmatic teams on events logistics and needs.
  • Support the management of speaker engagement, invitations, acceptances, and briefings.
  • Work closely with the Communications team on all event communications, registration forms, and promotion elements across digital channels.
  • Support the Head of Communications and External Relations with developing staffing plans, events check-lists, training staff on on-site event roles, and managing events programming and production.
  • Manage event software and virtual event platform.
  • Provide on-site events assistance and support during the week of September 16 – 21, 2024.
  • Develop post-event communications assets (e.g. a video highlight reel, e-message) to share across SDSN’s channels.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Professional fluency in English required; other languages are considered a plus;
  • 5-7 years in event planning and management required.
  • Demonstrated record of successful events coordination to support strategic objectives.
  • Outstanding organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and tasks simultaneously.
  • Exhibits excellent judgment, high integrity, and discretion at all times.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Adept at communications, administrative, and events/meetings software, such as word; excel; powerpoint; zoom; and eventbrite.
  • Graphic design, marketing; and communications experience strongly preferred; experience with video editing looked upon favorably;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple teams and time zones;
  • Ability to engage with high-level UN officials and leaders in a professional and timely manner.
