We serve apprentices and their employers in Amherst and surrounding areas and have offices throughout Nova Scotia in Halifax, Bridgewater, Kentville, Yarmouth, Truro, New Glasgow and Sydney.About Our OpportunityIf you are detail oriented, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, we have an exciting opportunity for you to explore as an Examinations Clerk.As the Examinations Clerk, you will be responsible for providing examination and clerical assistance in support of the business functions of the Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency in its role to steward and operate a relevant, accessible and responsive industry-led trades training and certification system for the province.You will be central to the successful planning and scheduling of examinations for the agency because of the significant scope in skills and responsibilities required for the position. Stakeholders of the system that are served by the Agency include, but are not limited to: apprentices, employers, sector councils, businesses, labour organizations, associations, certified trades persons, other government departments, jurisdictional authorities across Canada, training providers and the general public.With a comprehensive knowledge of the agency’s functions and activities you will be responsible to ensure inquiries and apprenticeship and trade certification documentation are processed in a timely and professional manner. You will also ensure that policies and procedures for the administration of examinations are adhered to and applied.As the Examinations Clerk you will report to the Manager of Programs.Primary AccountabilitiesThe position requires the clerk to:

  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy of the Agency’s computerized database management system
  • Prepare financial reports
  • Order, Page-check, and ship exams across the province
  • Mark exams after they are written
  • Process fees and bank deposits and provide for the timely administration and mailing of province-wide trade certification examination results and other Agency documentation
  • Provide assistance and administrative support to the Receptionist, ensuring that front counter duties are maintained during regular business hours.

Qualifications and ExperienceThis may be the right opportunity for you if you completed Grade 11 and have 4 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.You have previous experience in office, financial and information management. You possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills with an ability to plan and prioritize work. You have exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to address and manage client dissatisfaction.You possess strong computer, technical, office and business administrative skills with proficient problem-solving abilities. You think critically and provide innovative solutions to office or work-related problems.
