Contract type: Indefinite Contract (36 hours per week)
Pay band: Payband 7
Salary: £30,839 plus £3,300 London Market Allowance for those based in the London area only.Benefits Include, but are not limited to:

The British Council’s vision for English & Examinations is to be the world authority in high quality English language teaching, learning and assessment, as well as the partner of choice for UK professional and school exam providers, enabling international distribution of their qualifications.The Examinations business makes a significant contribution to British Council financial sustainability, and as such, it is essential that the business continues to grow and evolve in order to maintain its position in a fast-changing operating context.The business has been through extensive change and has developed many standardised processes and systems across the globe to deliver efficiencies, however there is a need to constantly iterate and develop these in response to changing customer needs, increased levels of competitions and new technologies.The Role:This role will include but is not limited to:

  • Ensure the reliable marking of IELTS Speaking tests on all online testing platforms
  • Ensure regular IELTS monitoring and training of online Speaking Examiners takes place
  • Ensure appropriate follow up actions and support is provided to IELTS Speaking Examiners on all online testing platforms
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for online IELTS testing during and subsequent to the roll out phase of the project.
  • Report to the Examiner Hub Managers and be part of the Global Exams Delivery – Operations Team within the Delivery Function, a key part of the English & Exams Strategic Business Unit (SBU).

Accountabilities:

  • Screening applications by working with the resourcing team to ensure suitable and sufficient examiner coverage.
  • Ensures Examiner compliance with both PSN procedures and VCS delivery procedures by carrying out regular monitoring and ensure appropriate follow up actions and support is provided.
  • Training and standardising examiners in all online delivery products.
  • Prioritises work and resolves day-to-day operating resource issues for Examiner Hub team, to ensure high quality, consistent and efficient services are delivered.
  • Makes recommendations to senior managers on procedural improvements, resource requirements and other operational initiatives to drive enhance team performance, cost effectiveness, service quality and efficiency.
  • Uses standardised processes to performance manage Examiners and Senior Examiners to ensure that the team are compliant with agreed policies.
  • Conducts training for new Examiners as required.
  • Conducts standardisation for current Examiners as required.
  • Conducts training for Senior Examiners as required.
  • Sets and oversees marking for Examiners, holding them to account for achieving agreed performance targets that are aligned to Examiner Hub priorities and goals. Time horizons are likely to be monthly – quarterly.
  • Actively applies coaching and performance feedback techniques to maximise Examiner productivity and motivation in a high volume/pressurised delivery environment.

Requirements of the role

  • Current active IELTS Examiner with substantial examining experience
  • Demonstrable line management /performance management experience.
  • An excellent certification and monitoring for Speaking.
  • Demonstrable experience in conducting training workshops and/or seminars with teachers or other professional colleagues.
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver in a pressured environment
