Overview of Position

  • Our client in Somalia is planning to have an EPC Infrastructure & Services Unit (ISU), in which Field Engineers would support activities across all EPC units based on need.
  • Under the overall supervision of the National Project Officer & the direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting our clients ISU works.

Role Objectives

  • Assist in monitoring all infrastructure construction, site development, maintenance, improvement works & providing timely technical feedback to contracting companies & workers.
  • Report on the daily progress of work in the site & alert the Senior Project Assistant on any actual or potential shortcomings in construction works. Including that the provided materials are in line with the BOQ specifications & the construction works as per plans.
  • Maintain regular communication with construction companies implementing works for on behalf of our client to support coordination works at the site level.
  • Actively assist joint assessments, needs analysis, identification of gaps & monitoring & evaluation activities such as supporting the preparation of monitoring tools.
  • Assist the coordination of the procurement of sector related materials or equipment. This includes aiding in the preparation of bid documents with inputs on, among other things, technical issues & quantity.
  • Participate in studies on feasible options for identified adequate IDP sites in close cooperation with local authorities, community representatives, other humanitarian & development agencies.
  • Provide technical assistance for other programs in EPC as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required.

Project Reporting

This role works under the overall supervision of the National Project Officer & the direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant.

Key Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited academic institution, with three years of relevant professional experience or a high school certificate / diploma with five years relevant experience in monitoring site development & infrastructure works.
  • Experience in organization, delivery & monitoring of humanitarian services to community.
  • Experience in the complex field setting, preferably in Somalia or same region.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular Word & Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain integrity in performing responsibilities assigned.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details, take initiative & work with minimal supervision.
  • Fluency in English & Somali both writing & speaking is required & working knowledge of Arabic is desired.
