Key Responsibilities of Field Service Technician:

  • Programming and troubleshooting robotic machinery and line control systems.
  • Expertise with Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500) and/or Siemens S7 PLCs, PanelView Plus HMIs, Industrial Communication Networks (Ethernet IP, ASI, Profibus), Indramat Servo Drives (Indra Drive, CS).
  • Understanding and analysing advanced machine motion and operation controls.
  • Advanced knowledge of VFD functions, operations, and programming.
  • Proficient in reading and troubleshooting pneumatic and electrical schematics.
  • Providing site start-up support of integrated packaging equipment for the consumer products industry.
  • Working in customers’ manufacturing facilities worldwide and onsite at our UK base on the design, build, and testing of equipment prior to shipment.
  • Extensive travel and substantial physical activities including lifting, climbing, twisting, and kneeling.

Responsibilities of Field Service Technician:

  • Promote and support teamwork across the company, adhering to company policies and values.
  • Perform checks and troubleshoot system wiring.
  • Conduct site surveys and participate in technical meetings at customer sites.
  • Program robots, PLCs (including safety), and HMIs – Siemens, Rockwell, and others.
  • Update project documentation with as-built information post-intervention.
  • Sign off equipment and projects as complete, confirming they are fit for purpose.
  • Start up, commission, and fault find equipment on customer sites, providing remote support as required.
  • Supervise contractors working under the company’s scope of work.
  • Provide training to customer operations and maintenance staff.
  • Ensure the latest version of equipment software is uploaded and identified on the company network.
  • Complete assigned tasks within agreed timelines and in a cost-effective manner.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations and company policies.
  • Be prepared to travel nationally and internationally, sometimes at short notice.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  • Attend training courses to support duties and development, which may require travel within the UK or overseas.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experienced in Robotic & Automation Systems, ideally in the packaging industry.
  • Education in a relevant engineering discipline to HNC / HND qualification.
  • Beneficial experience in software design and Rockwell / Siemens PLC, motion, and servo control systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to convert verbal, written, and other media-based information into project documentation.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple project responsibilities.
  • Self-starter with a flexible ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
