Get in touch with us to discuss in more detail.About the roleWe are looking for a Finance and Business Performance Lead to be the finance lead for a new strategic initiative including budget management, financial forecasting and partnering with the new team to ensure they are optimising value and supporting strategic objectives.You will set up and run the business performance review process for the new strategic initiative including creating MI and insight actual performance compared to key performance indicators, and producing decision-supporting analysis.You will maintain strong stakeholder relationships with colleagues over a range of levels of seniority, from Executive leaders to colleagues involved in the delivery of the initiative. This involves being a ‘critical friend’ by supporting understanding of, and challenging, the impacts of business decisions on financial outcomes.ResponsibilitiesBudget management: Ensure that budgets are spent to maximise value and resource the initiative appropriately to support delivery to the highest standard. Challenge resource mix to ensure we are getting value for money and support the Procurement team in ensuring key third party relationships are appropriately scrutinised from both a commercial and risk management perspective.Financial modelling: Maintain the financial model for this initiative (projecting out over a 30 year+ period), ensuring it is regularly updated and is reflective of our latest outlook.Business performance monitoring: Set up and run the business performance monitoring for the new initiative. This goes beyond financial performance and looks at the key indicators to be used to measure the initiative’s progress and provide insight to inform decisions and where future actions need to be realigned.Partner with the new initiative team and wider business: Maintain strong relationships including active communication and visibility with the business. Ensure you are approachable to support them to consider financial consequences to their key decisions. Help the business work through key resourcing challenges and prioritisation with a cost/value lens.Strong business knowledge: Maintain strong business understanding including key strategic priorities and markets in which the business operates. The initiative itself is changing and evolving at a fast pace, so there will be need to keep abreast of the changing landscape and shape of activity.Produce and contribute to regular MI and reporting: Ensure that MI answers the ‘so what’ and that variances are clearly explained. Proactively seek action from MI where there are undesirable variances. Ensure that processes by which cost information hits the ledger and MI is produced are robust and timely and improved where necessary to increase efficiency.Contribute towards engagement with the Group Board and other senior committees: Provide key materials towards updates to senior committees such Board and GEC including positioning of the business case and financial modelling, and where performance of the initiative needs to be evaluated.Input into key Group processes: Ensure timely, consistent and diligent input into wider Group processes including the annual 5 year Plan process, periodic reforecasting activity and monthly reporting into the ledgers and MI.Skills and KnowledgeQualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)Experience of budgeting, forecasting and management accounting best practice.Experience of working in a retail focussed industry with high levels of marketing activity is preferredExperience of working closely on strategic projects and/or start-up activities would be advantageousExperience of the wider Retirement industry (both financial and non-financial) and Financial Services would be advantageous.Experience of project/investment appraisal and resourcing/cost management for projects would be advantageousKnowledge of Oracle would be an advantage but not essential.Strong and confident communication skills – both written & verbalDisplays the confidence and ability to communicate with and challenge all levels of staff and management, including Executives.Strong analytical skills.Ability to handle and manipulate large amounts of raw data into relevant and presentable formats.
