  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles.
  • Experience with creating financial statements, general ledger, supporting journals and schedules and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Experience working in not-for-profit would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in accounting and donor management software (i.e., Raisers Edge or Donor Perfect) QuickBooks or other financial management software, Excel and MS Word.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Time management skills and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills that include sensitivity to donor information.
  • Post-secondary education in financial related courses or a related field with equivalent experience.

Duties

  • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping for financial transactions.
  • Prepare bank deposits.
  • Maintain general ledger and supporting journals and schedules.
  • Prepare month-end reconciliations of bank accounts and allocations of revenue to correct accounts.
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements for internal management use.
  • Maintain budget to actuals for review by management.
  • Manage the process of compiling the required information as part of the year-end audit.
  • Process donations, manage and process recurring donations and issue charitable tax receipts.
  • Support Finance Committee, through the ED and Treasurer, with Finance Committee meeting materials, minutes and meeting package content.
  • Compile financial information needed for external and internal communications (i.e. annual report, event remarks, donor stewardship reports).
  • Prepare prospect profiles and generate reports through the collection and entry of data using Donor Perfect, QuickBooks and other software like CharityCan, MS Word and MS Excel.
