About the role

We are looking for a Finance Controls Specialist to lead on the identification, assessment and documentation of key risks and controls linked to financial reporting and SII risks. The required controls must be rigorous and appropriate as well as meet the standards expected by internal and external auditors and the requirements as defined by the Regulator.

Responsibilities

Identification and design of business processes, risks and controls relevant to IFRS and SII reporting, including IFRS17

Proposing efficient solutions to promote control improvements and deficiencies

Supporting the finance team in maintaining governance documentation, considering risk management during project activities and formulating the correct solutions

Assessing the design adequacy and operational effectiveness of control activities within the finance function.

Assist Head of Financial Controls to prepare committee and other ad hoc reporting

Work with the Product Manager to define the roadmap for the given product/initiative and translate this into user stories/incremental plans

Lead the collaborative, dynamic planning process – prioritising the work that needs to be done against the capacity and capability of the teams in scope

Skills & Experience

Qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) or equivalent with substantial experience in public accounting, internal audit, control, risk or other activities that directly align with the specific responsibilities for this position.

Strong Financial Reporting control experience and oversight of control environment in Insurance sector is essential

First-hand operational experience, able to work independently to design controls and processes, to define and document business processes, and to identify and rectify deficiencies and monitor remediation

Good understanding of risk management and audit principles and practices with particular focus on processes, risk and control for Financial Reporting and SII

Analytical approach with ability to work systematically and unsupervised, to tight deadlines and with multiple competing priorities.

Pragmatic problem-solver with commercial awareness and a flexible, collaborative approach.

A self-starter and independent learner who takes the initiative to challenge the status quo and is creative and comfortable with ‘blank sheet of paper’ assignments.

Proficient in Microsoft Visio and Excel
