Purpose

A key member of the Head Office Banking team, where you will support the team in processing over £3bn in payments annually, across 100 bank accounts. You will also be responsible for producing timely and accurate bank reconciliations.

The role sits within the wider Finance Operations team, supporting Next’s Retail, Online and Total Platform Partner businesses.

Responsibilities

Cash Book Processing

  • Maintain integrity of company cash books in compliance with company policy, ensuring the reconciliation of bank statements to the cashbooks (general ledger)..
  • Adhere to the security requirements involved in the handling of cash and cheques.
  • Facilitate the processing and approval of payments across multiple platforms and Banks.
  • Investigate and escalate queries and issues with the appropriate Departments internally and with Third Parties where appropriate.
  • Support month-end reconciliations and revaluations.
  • Identify opportunities for streamlining and enhancing the payments and bank reconciliation process

Payment Processing

  • Prepare & issue for authorization Bacs, Faster Payments & Priority payments for all areas of the business including Accounts Payable, Payroll and Customer Services.
  • Ensure the correct payment type is used on requisitions, challenging those that do not meet current banking procedures.
  • Ensure departmental authorisation of payments is in line with Company policy.
  • Organise & obtain finance authorisation in line with Company policy.
  • Manage and send payments to ensure they debit the correct bank account on the correct date.
  • Process cheques by exception including the issue & authorisation according to Company policy.
  • Ensure that all payments relating to invoices are redirected to the Accounts Payable department.
  • Ensure any high value payments are registered with Treasury Department and the appropriate exchange rate is used where required

Experience

  • Experience in working in a fast-paced, high volume banking operations or treasury environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with excel to an intermediate level
  • Familiarity with operations involving different currencies in banking and accounting.
