This Post will provide support to the Financial Accountant in providing a comprehensive financial support service to the Finance Team. In particular administering and maintaining the Accounts Receivable (AR) system, actively reviewing the Trust Debtors and ensuring their timely collection: this will include providing assistance and advice to internal and external stakeholders.In addition, the post holder will be responsible for the collation of debtor information and the interaction with other NHS organisations and Government Bodies.The post holder will ensure financial information is processed in accordance with procedures, in order to efficiently complete statutory returns in relation to own area of work and the work of other team members.Main duties of the jobActively review the debtors schedules to identify outstanding debts. Follow up actions will include initiating and managing difficult and sensitive communications with debtors in a professional and courteous manner. This could include repeat and follow up conversations, writing letters, and the monitoring of payment plans. When dealing with patient or salary overpayment debts this should be carried out in an empathetic and sensitive manner.Responsible for supervising other staff who undertake debt collection tasks.Issue debtors and income statements to NHS organisations and Government Bodies in line with Welsh Government timetable. Discuss and resolve discrepancies to ensure agreement is reached within strict deadlines.   • Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) technician level or NVQ level 4. Or equivalent experience of working within a finance department.
  • GCSE English and Maths, level 5/B grade or above. Intermediate level skills of Excel & Word. Equivalent experience, able to demonstrate.

  • Experience of working in the NHS.

ExperienceEssential

  • Experience of working in finance or related organisation.
  • Knowledge of balancing / reconciling complex accounts.
  • Extensive experience of credit control / debt collection, dealing with queries and problem solving.
  • Experience of working in a customer focused manner.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to credit control and debt collection
  • Accurate keyboard skills. Be able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when working with others.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Able to demonstrate accounting knowledge.
  • Plan daily workload, managing competing demands, pressures and deadlines.

  • Experience of working in NHS Finance or related organisation
  • Experience of NHS accounting and control processes
  • Experience of using the Oracle System.
  • Ability to speak Welsh to level 3.
