As a member of the Finance team, the Financial Accountant is responsible for preparing monthly and annual financial results and overseeing revenue transactions and related account reconciliations. While current duties focus on these aspects, the ideal candidate will exhibit versatility to advance across all Finance team functions, including capital acquisitions, grant management and reporting, and budgeting. You’ll also play a crucial role in ensuring our resources are efficiently managed to support our mission of building stronger communities, cultivating hope, and facilitating meaningful change.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform donation, rental, and service revenue analysis and reconciliation;
- Analyze revenue and create month-end accruals as required;
- Prepare monthly working paper files;
- Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations;
- Examine financial records for accuracy and create adjusting journal entries if required;
- Manage rental revenue, prepaid rent and damage deposit recognition in the accounting system based on the rental roll reports sourced from the property management department, delegate data entry to junior personnel, and review entries and related rental reconciliations for accuracy;
- Process donation of securities and cooperate with the donor relations team on the same;
- Record gift-in-kind donations in collaboration with the donor relations team, analyze month-over-month trends and perform reconciliation;
- Maintain reconciliation of deferred revenue and capital contributions;
- Conduct research on accounting standards and document research results to present as part of the recommendation for the treatment of unusual transactions in the areas of responsibility;
- Generate mortgage loan journal entries and manage related GL account reconciliations;
- Assist with external audit requests;
- Maintain an effective internal control systems and create and maintain procedures manuals using professional judgment and expertise to depict the opportunities for improvement and propose solutions to identified problems;
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, commerce, business administration, or a related field;
- Completion of, or consistent progress towards a CPA designation;
- 5+ years of accounting experience with a demonstrated level of increasing responsibilities;
- Proven experience with full cycle accounting, financial statement preparation and analysis, and account reconciliations;
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook); intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel is required;
- Excellent client service skills and ability to handle high volumes and multiple priorities in a professional, courteous manner while meeting strict deadlines;
- Positive and professional work ethics, which include: Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Excellence;
- Experience with Certinia (formerly Financial Force) would be an asset;
- This position requires a quick learner that can balance multiple priorities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hybrid office work arrangement during business hours.
- Some overtime may be required during busy periods.
- Prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, and minimal physical effort.
- Moderate to extreme mental effort is required to meet deadlines and ensure the accuracy of data entry.
