Comprised of a group of accounting professionals, the FSD office is focused onfinancial reporting and the University Guide to Financial Management policy compliance. Our vision is to be innovative and solutions-focused financial stewards, partnering with the University community to support world-leading research and learning.The busy office works with both central and divisional offices across the University and external groups such as banks, auditors, government agencies and various other stakeholders.Your opportunity:Within FSD, the Operating Accounting and Financial Analysis group is responsible for policies, procedures and systems for banking, accounts payable and operating accounting, financial reporting, fiscal year end and audit and tax reporting.As a Financial Analyst, you will perform a broad range of duties including financial reporting, analysis and financial management, in support of the University community. Under the general direction of the Assistant Manager, Operating Accounting, you will provide support to the University’s fiscal year-end process, such as preparing and posting year-end journal entries, producing financial reports and reconciliations, and coordinating audit information for internal and external auditors.The Financial Analyst is also involved in supporting and implementing process improvements and special projects for the Financial Services Department which support various business needs.Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and recording year end financial transactions and working papers.
- Preparing financial reports and reconciliations.
- Collecting and coordinating audit information for internal and external auditors.
- Assisting with and preparing of various tax filings and statutory reporting requirements such as Canadian information return, US tax return, annual COFO and CAUBO financial reports.
- Responding to subordinate bank account inquiries and opening of subordinate accounts.
- Supporting settlement of aged Cash Advances and reconciliations.
- Adhoc reporting and analysis of financial data in AMS, Convera, Concur and other data systems.
- Responding to inquiries and provide guidance for banking, Accounts Payable, tax and accounting practices, consistent with the University Guide to Financial Management policies and procedures.
- Supporting and implementing process improvements and special projects.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of recent and related financial experience in higher education or similar environment.
- Solid understanding and ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams and Outlook).
- Experience maintaining and organizing administrative and financial records.
- Highly attentive to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and execute complex projects and manage conflicting priorities within established timelines.
- Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative team member.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, diplomacy and maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of the University’s financial procedures and guidelines, or other similar procedures.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Completion of or pursuing a recognized accounting program (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA).
- Related experience in a university environment or higher educational institution
- Demonstrated experience with developing and implementing automated solutions
- Knowledge of SAP

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 13 — $84,813. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $108,463. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
