The Role:

MEC is recruiting for a Financial Analyst that reports directly into the Controller. This person will be responsible for supporting month end close, budgeting and forecasting and analysis. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in various areas of finance and support the business with analysis to drive MEC’s future success.

This is a hybrid role based at MEC’s HO in Vancouver and expect this role will require someone to be in the office minimum 2 days a week.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepare some period end journal entries and accruals
  • Complete bank reconciliations
  • Prepare balance sheet working papers and provide year over year and period over period analysis on changes
  • Review period over period P&L variances
  • Prepare departmental budget to actual reports and support with analysis
  • Finance business partner to several operational leaders (op ex)
  • Support with preparing the monthly corporate reporting pack
  • Actively participate in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecast, including coordination with various stakeholders across the organization
  • Assist with budget/ forecast consolidation, analysis and the preparation of management reports and presentations
  • Assist with maintaining and evolving analytical tools and processes that enhance the quality of reporting, forecasting and analysis
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, ensuring process changes are appropriately implemented, documented and communicated
  • Manage certain vendor relationships including gift cards and environmental producer responsibility consultant and submit reports
  • Ensure company compliance with environmental producer responsibility obligations
  • Ad hoc analysis as required

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education; degree in Business, Finance or Economics is required
  • 3+ years relevant work experience; audit/ accounting experience
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills, with strong modelling experience
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, experience with Microsoft BI an asset, Microsoft Dynamics 365 an asset
  • Self-motivated, deadline orientated with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, work with others and contribute to a team environment
  • Experience in the retail industry an asset

The Compensation & Perks

The anticipated annual base salary range of this role is $56,000 to $69,900. The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. This role is eligible for our annual variable incentive plan.
