We’re looking for experienced Financial Assessment Officers to join our friendly team based in Derby City centre. The Social Care Charging team plays a key role in serving the people of Derby ensuring that customers receive a fair, accurate financial assessment and any financial contribution required is clearly communicated to them. The Social Care Charging team is also responsible for ensuring that care providers receive accurate payments for the services they provide.
If you have proven financial assessment experience and want to make a difference this is an exciting time to join our existing Financial Assessment team. You will be joining us at the start of our transformation journey, utilising new technology and reviewing processes, to enable us to provide enhanced support, service and guidance to our customers and suppliers – so you should be happy in an environment that is evolving and changing.

The Opportunity
In the role of Financial Assessment Officer, here’s an example of what you’ll be doing to make an impact:
- Assessing financial information to calculate care and support charges in relation to the requirements of the relevant legislation, Council policies and procedures
- Utilising IT systems to record, assess, review and report on financial assessment information and ensure financial records are accurately maintained
- Update IT systems as required to enable the collection of all relevant charges, monitor payment of these and take recovery action in cases of non-payment
- Update IT systems as required to provide accurate and timely payments to customers and providers, monitor payment of these and take recovery action where required in accordance with the appropriate legislation
- Carry out monitoring, reviews and reconciliation of customer accounts as required to ensure expenditure complies with the relevant legislation, Council Policy and procedures
- Regularly communicating with a range of people including members of the public, providers, third-party agencies and internal colleagues to provide information, advice and support by phone, email, letter and face to face
Be responsible for handling complex queries which may involve the application of legislation or policy.
About You
To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have…
- Financial Assessment Experience
- GCSE Maths & English Grade A – C or equivalent qualification
- Experience of working in a customer focused financial administrative role
- Experience of accurately maintaining computerised financial systems and payment systems
- High level of numeracy skills
- Ability to record and present information accurately
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with sensitive and challenging issues in a confident and professional manner with a variety of audiences
- Very good working knowledge of MS Office inc. Excel, Outlook & Word
If you’ve got the below experience that’d be great, but it’s certainly not essential:
- Debt recovery experience
- Experience of working with state benefit rules
Experience of adhering to Financial Regulations & Procedures
