An exciting opportunity to join a small dynamic team to deliver an innovative gallery programme at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Based in The Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, which recently welcomed its 2 millionth visitor, the postholder will play a key role in making art exhibitions happen, as well as caring for a Grade II listed building housing original paintings in the Marianne North Gallery.

More details

You will bring significant experience of working in the museum or gallery sector as an art handler or exhibitions technician, having led exhibition installs and worked directly with artist studios and collections. You will have skills that are invaluable for exhibitions delivery including joinery and construction. You will be familiar with risks associated with object handling and have knowledge of preventative conservation practices together with a thorough grounding in health and safety legislation.

You will have the confidence and experience to lead a team of contractors during exhibition installs, commission specific technical support and have certification including SMSTS (Site Managers Safety Training Scheme) and PASMA. You will be confident in troubleshooting technical issues, finding solutions and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders.

A team player you will be flexible and adptable in your approach, a good planner and self-motivated with excellent communication skills.

Finally, successful candidates will need to hold a full UK driving license or an ability to obtain one within first three months for this role in order to drive vehicles on site.

Interviews to be held in March 2024. There will be a practical assessment as part of the interview.

This is principally a site-based role at RBG Kew with occasional hybrid working subject to operational requirements.

The salary will be £36,338 per annum (pro rata).
