We combine four elements to help the customers make better and faster decisions in the frontier: hyperlocal data, low resource machine translation, applied AI analytics, and codified human wisdom.Job Description: Our team is growing and we need a specialist to enhance our geospatial analysis and storytelling. We are looking for a talented mid-level GIS Analyst to join our team. The primary function of this role includes the creation of maps for intelligence reports and digital products. You will be instrumental in turning vast amounts of social media and other media data into comprehensive, visually appealing maps that inform our intelligence reports. This is a part-time role, 20 hours a week. You’ll have reasonable flexibility, with the requirement of joining regular or ad hoc calls at scheduled times. The role is fully remote, and you will be working with team members in South Africa, Madagascar, and the U.S..Key Responsibilities:

  • Map Development: Design, compile, and update maps and geographic data for use in intelligence analysis, focusing on integrating social media and media data into GIS products.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze spatial data from various sources, including social media platforms, to identify patterns, trends, and insights.
  • Digital Product Support: Assist in the creation of digital products by providing geospatial content that enhances user understanding and decision-making capabilities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with intelligence analysts, data scientists, and designers to ensure the accuracy and relevance of geographic information.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the integrity of GIS data through rigorous quality assurance and quality control practices.
  • Presentation: Prepare and present findings in meetings or reports, explaining complex geographical data in an accessible manner.

Requirements:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in GIS analysis, with proven experience in a similar role.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms. Knowledge of programming languages like Python for GIS tasks is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and translate them into actionable insights.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems related to data mapping and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with big data, particularly from social media sources.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools beyond traditional GIS software.
