General Description of the Organization:
Orange is a non-governmental civil society organization devoted to alleviating the suffering and improving the sustainability mechanisms of the conflict-affected population. Since its establishment, Orange has partners directly with affected Syrian populations delivering programs spanning sectors, including humanitarian and development programs, in the Early Recovery and Livelihoods, Food Security and agriculture, Education and Protection, WASH, and Shelter, in addition to long-term impact interventions focusing on the economic empowerment and the local value chains improvements to enable targeted communities to improve their living practices and their sustainable mechanisms. Orange collaborates with a variety of national and international non-governmental organizations, as well as local initiatives, to adopt a community-based approach that leads to improving the response’s impact on the humanitarian crisis and provides sustainable and alternative solutions.
Job Purpose:
Orange is seeking an experienced GIS Consultant for a short-term assignment in North-West Syria. The consultant will play a critical role in implementing GIS-related projects, ensuring high-quality geographic data analysis and map production.
Duties, objectives, and competencies:
Project implementation
- Collect, analyse, and interpret geographic information from geodetic surveys, aerial photographs, and satellite data.
- Create detailed maps and related graphics using GIS software and tools.
- Oversee the GIS-related assignment, ensuring timely completion and adherence to set objectives.
- Work closely with field teams and local stakeholders to gather necessary geographic data.
- Offer technical expertise and support in GIS to project team members.
- Address and resolve any GIS-related issues that arise during the project.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in GIS or a related field.
- Proven experience with GIS software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in cartography and map creation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in challenging and changing environments.
- Knowledge of remote sensing and photogrammetry is a plus.
