Job description

Description

Position at EF International Language Campuses-Summer Camps

Role: Global Leadership Leader

Location: Thornwood, NY

Salary: $19-$24 / hour (Room & Board Eligible)

EF is the world’s leading educational travel provider with over 55 years of experience. With our International Summer Schools, we offer young learners the opportunity to spend 2 – 4 weeks in North America, improving their English language skills in a robust program while participating in a full-activity program of sports, discos, parties, excursions, and lots more!

About the role

In this role, you will lead and actively engage in a safe, organized, meaningful, enriching, and fun Global Leadership program for groups of international summer students, primarily ages 13-17. The program should focus on the work of the United Nations (UN) and the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), an urgent call for action by a global partnership of all developed and developing countries to end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, spur economic growth, tackle climate change, and work to preserve our oceans and forests.

Each weekday, students will enjoy their English classes in the morning. The other half of the day, students will meet to discuss the goals that mostly closely align with their home county and present a resolution project of how they will address one of the SDGs when they return home. In addition, students will visit the United Nations in New York. This visit will allow students to discuss how to lead the building of a global partnership aimed at sustainable development to improve human lives and protect the environment worldwide.

Global Leadership staff will also participate as Activity Leaders in other activities and events on campus. This is a seasonal summer position, and full room and board are available on campus. Candidates should be available for the summer starting approximately June 10, 2024.

Your key tasks will consist of, but not be limited to:

Ability to implement age-appropriate, safe, and enriching pre-defined lesson plans and activities focused on the UN SDGs and principles with groups of international students.

Teach and guide students and coworkers in participating successfully and appropriately in all aspects of the Global Leadership camp activities.

Participate in and assist in running camp and program events and initiatives.

Accompany students on field trips and off-campus excursions, including to the United Nations in New York City and a weekend trip to Washington, DC.

Communicate regularly with the direct supervisor regarding concerns, updates, challenges, and successes.

Set an excellent example for students and coworkers in all areas, including but not limited to accountability, fairness, organization, punctuality, and following the rules.

Assist with student arrivals and departures.

Deliver an initial welcome briefing to students.

Monitor daily attendance and keep up-to-date records and paperwork.

Attend all leader meetings.

Ensure students follow the EF behavior code and inform management immediately if there are any issues or problems.

Respond to all problems and emergencies should they arise.

Perform other duties as assigned by management staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Model UN with the ability to teach these skills and create a positive learning environment.

Familiarity with the UN SDGs

Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage EF international students in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere.

Possess strong communication and leadership skills and has excellent character, integrity, adaptability, patience, responsibility, enthusiasm, organization, and humor.

Possess the visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to program activity.

Be able to lead and fully participate in activities.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Have the right to live and work in the country of employment.
