JOB SUMMARY

The Grants Strategy Manager at MedGlobal will play a pivotal role in overseeing the organization’s grants portfolio and spearheading efforts to secure funding from key donors. This position focuses on developing and implementing innovative grant-seeking strategies for institutional donors (e.g., USAID), U.S.-based corporate giving programs, and U.S. foundations requiring proposals. Reporting to senior leadership, the Grants Strategy Manager will ensure alignment between MedGlobal’s mission, global programs, and donor priorities while supporting a team dedicated to corporate and foundation fundraising.

The Grants Strategy Manager will oversee grant application processes, donor engagement, and reporting, with a focus on expanding MedGlobal’s funding base and optimizing donor relationships. This role will also monitor global donor trends, support program design, and ensure compliance with grant requirements. The manager will contribute to the efficient, cost-effective, and strategic growth of MedGlobal by leveraging partnerships, fostering innovation, and building a high-performing team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy Development and Execution

  • Develop and implement comprehensive grant-seeking strategies targeting institutional donors (with a focus on all government institutional prospects globally outside of MENA)
  • Collaborate with executive, field, and program teams to align grants strategies with organizational goals and identify opportunities for new donor engagement.
  • Support the development of MedGlobal’s 2025 five-year Grants Strategic Plan, aligned with the organization’s next Strategic Plan.
  • Conduct global donor landscape assessments to inform grant-seeking priorities and ensure alignment with country-specific needs and programmatic objectives.

Donor Engagement and Proposal Development

  • Cultivate relationships with institutional donors, corporate giving programs, and foundations, with a focus on expanding and diversifying the donor portfolio.
  • Lead the development of high-quality concept notes and proposals in collaboration with technical units, M&E, and program teams.
  • Monitor donor trends and identify opportunities to position MedGlobal as a competitive applicant for funding.
  • Oversee communications with donors throughout the proposal development and reporting processes.

Grant Management and Compliance

  • Ensure grant compliance by tracking contractual obligations, reporting deadlines, and donor-specific requirements.
  • Work with country teams to facilitate project kick-off and close-out meetings, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned on deliverables and timelines.
  • Maintain grant management systems, including trackers, databases, and reporting schedules, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Oversee the development and timely submission of donor reports and address ad hoc requests.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor at least one direct report (with potential for a second), focusing on corporate and foundation fundraising.
  • Build the capacity and work closely with in-country donor relations colleagues on a top-down / bottom-up approach to obtaining institutional funding, including strategy development, proposal writing, donor relations.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the grants team.
  • Build the capacity of in-country teams in donor relations, proposal writing, and funding strategy development.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate grants team staff to ensure a high-performing, well-supported team.

Networking and Representation

  • Represent MedGlobal in donor meetings and relevant forums to enhance the organization’s visibility and credibility.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with international and local NGOs, UN agencies, and academic institutions to strengthen grant proposals and programmatic reach.

Key Performance Indicators

  • % annual budget increase/decrease of grant funding as compared to previous year
  • % success rate of proposals
  • % of reports submitted in a timely manner
  • Annual business plan created
  • Number of training sessions with field teams
  • Number of donors in portfolio and % change as compared to previous year
  • Regular and timely holding of coordination meetings and submission of reports

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in grants management and fundraising
  • Demonstrated track-record of success in securing grants from a variety of sources
  • Knowledge of best practices in grant-seeking, including prospect research, grant writing, and donor relations
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with staff and stakeholders
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluating grant performance
  • Passion for and commitment to MedGlobal’s mission and values
  • Willingness to travel as needed
