An exciting and new opportunity has arisen for the role of Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Assistant Therapist within a newly created Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) AHP teamat HDFTThis is a fixed term /secondment project post until 31/3/26 from start of appointment to develop and deliver a high-quality heamato- oncology and palliative care specialist Therapy service to patients under the care of HDFT in community and outpatient settings.The post holder will work alongside the band 7 specialist Occupational Therapist (OT) who will lead the project, a band 6 OT and band 6 Physiotherapist (Physio) and Dietician within a multidisciplinary team.Main duties of the jobTo assist in planning, delivering and evaluating evidence based HOPerehabilitation and education programsto enable patients to achievepersonalised goals and facilitating ‘best quality, safest care’o Within Cancer, the service will focus on patients diagnosed with Cancer of unknown primary (CUP), Lung, Upper GI, primary Brain cancers and those with haematological malignancy.o Within Specialist Palliative Care the service will focus on patients with progressive life limiting illness and complex needs within the defined referral criteriaThe Therapy Assistant will carry out planned programmes of therapy intervention for patients, with complex needs, under the supervision and direction of the Registered Therapists within the HOPe team. The role involves delivering therapy interventions to patients in their own homes and outpatient clinics to:
- facilitate optimal level of function and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions,
- facilitate optimal level of function to enable consideration of anticancer treatment
- facilitate preferred place of care,
- optimise symptom control,
- help to maximise quality of life and address individual needs.
