An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Hard Services (M&E) Manager with a mechanical bias at Lewisham & Southwark Colleges. This critical role involves overseeing the day-to-day mechanical and electrical maintenance operations across the College estate, ensuring that our facilities remain fit for purpose and compliant with all statutory and legislative requirements. You will play a vital part in supporting the College’s mission to provide outstanding teaching and learning in a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance Oversight: Manage the mechanical and electrical maintenance operations, including HVAC systems and boilers, collaborating with the M&E maintenance team, helpdesk, and academic staff to ensure a well-maintained environment.
  • Water Hygiene Management: Contribute to the Water Safety Group and lead the delivery of an effective water management scheme.
  • Building Management Systems: Act as the primary contact for the management and operation of building management systems across the colleges.
  • Project Management: Serve as the M&E project manager for minor building fabric capital projects, including defining project briefs, monitoring progress, and ensuring adherence to budgets and timelines.
  • Contractor Management: Oversee the appointment and management of contractors, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Financial Management: Manage budgets effectively, preparing reports for the Head of Estates regarding equipment and infrastructure status and associated risks.
  • Customer Service: Foster a customer-first ethos within operational activities and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Compliance and Best Practice: Ensure compliance with UK legislation and implement best practices in property maintenance and energy management.

Ideal Candidate:The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in building fabric maintenance or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, and their maintenance.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven experience in managing budgets and preparing cost estimates.
  • Experience with building management systems (BMS) and computerised systems for maintenance management.
  • Knowledge of health and safety laws and procedures relevant to the mechanical and electrical disciplines.
