You will be responsible for leading key initiatives and processes on behalf of the Finance Division and the Agency. You will be a key point of contact for the Finance Committee of the Board. You will own the agency’s budgeting process, support strategic and financial analyses to inform decision making, and oversee monthly reporting to agency leadership on performance against budget and key financial metrics. You will also participate in and lead global and agency transformation projects and processes that will enable more effective and efficient agency performance.The Head, FP&A works directly with the agency’s Senior Leadership Team, will be a key member of the Finance Leadership Team, supervises a team of Finance professionals and leaders, and engages and supports embedded finance teams in other divisions.LocationHybrid – Washington DC, Fairfield, CT or Lexington, KY office locationsWhat You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)*
*not inclusive of all role responsibilities. May be subject to changeFinancial Analysis and Business Partnering (65%)
- Provide overall functional leadership for financial planning and analysis and agency management of profit and loss statement
- Develop and implement the agency’s financial plan and budget to achieve the agency’s strategy and annual plan
- Evaluate and inform agency strategy by assessing financial impacts and opportunities to influence decision making
- Support data-driven analytics and insights that inform investment decisions and strategic choices to optimize long-term agency results
- Analyze performance (ROI, fundraising efficiency, market share, etc.) of strategic plans and investments.
- Influence the allocation of resources between and among divisions to drive overall agency financial performance
- Recommend changes to strategy, resource allocation, and/or other factors to differentiate Save the Children and create enduring competitive advantage and superior long-term agency results
- Develop and deliver action-oriented monthly management reports on financial performance and corrective actions
- Provide historical and trend analyses, donor and financial analyses, and ad hoc reports as requested, including presentations to Senior Leadership Team and Board, on key financial trends and issues.
- Engage with global Finance and Resource Mobilization teams to inform global budget process, drive goal setting for key financial metrics, and identify and implement global investment opportunities to reduce costs and/or increase growth
- Evaluate and develop models for new business investment opportunities and track performance over time
- Identify, analyze, and deliver opportunities to manage costs more efficiently and effectively to increase value for money
- Partner with agency leaders to support measurement of progress against key indicators of the strategy, financial plan, and operating plan
Finance Division and Agency Initiatives and Special Projects (20%)
- Lead and be a key participant in agency and global transformation projects
- Design and direct the development of new and innovative approaches for the agency to reduce costs, improve core business processes, and achieve other strategic objectives
- Identify, prioritize, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to successful completion in partnership with Finance Leadership Team.
- Lead Finance Division annual planning, goal setting, and related processes
Team Development and Leadership 12-18 People (15%)
- Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging – supporting Save the Children values
- Support and promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and commitment to quality.
- Provide functional guidance and coaching to direct and embedded Finance teams.
- Work with people managers to develop staff accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and monitor/evaluate performance of a diverse team.
Required qualifications for the role
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 15 years of relevant experience
- Proven success in financial and staff leadership development in a moderate to large sized organization
- Demonstrated managerial knowledge, skills, and experience to lead a department and to provide technical advice, guidance and direction related to large programs
- Proven ability to communicate clear high-level information in an informative and clear manner to staff, senior leadership team, board and other constituents in verbal and written communications
- Proven analytical, conceptual thinking and strategic planning skills
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred qualifications for the role
- Experience leading planning and budgeting processes in a global NGO or organization of similar scale and complexity.
- Experience with written and verbal board level communications
CompensationSave the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 1 – NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $188,700 – $210,900 base salary
- Geo 2 – Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $171,700 – $191,900 base salary
- Geo 3 – Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $154,700 – $172,900 base salary
The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.
