Our Port Hope location is looking for a Health Physicist to work with our Historic Waste Program Office. If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you! The Health Physicist, Level 2 will assist the Historic Waste Program Management office (HWP MO) Manager, Radiation Protection, and the Health Physicist Lead in providing Health Physics (HP) and radiation protection (RP) support to the Historic Waste Program (HWP) Management Office. The Health Physicist (HP) Level 2 position is reserved for those who have a minimum of 3 years (36 months) of operational Health Physics experience and/or CNL Group 1 Health Physics Qualification. Those with 3 years (36 months) of operational Health Physics experience and who do NOT have CNL Group 1 Health Physicist Qualification will be provided with 2 years (24 months) to successfully complete the CNL Group 1 Health Physics qualification. Failure to complete the Group 1 Health Physics Qualification within the 24-month window will result it removal of Health Physics, Level 2 designation.The HP, level 2 will provide HP Subject Mater Expert (SME) and Group 1 HP support (once qualified) to CNL and/or CNL Remediation Contractors in the development, implementation, and oversight of radiation protection practices. The HP, Level 2 will provide an expert review of plans and procedures and deliver effective oversight of field implementation of CNSC and PHAI-compliant RP program elements. The HP Level 2 must have excellent technical communication skills including technical writing and document preparation/review.What will you be doing !The Health Physicist, level 2 will perform duties including:

  • Performing radiological safety assessments.
  • Documenting radiological work assessments.
  • Assisting in documenting radiological work plans.
  • Review of subcontractor RP plans and standard operating procedures.
  • Teaching Group 4 RP Training and assisting with the teaching of Group 3 and Group 2 and Group 1 RP Training for CNL staff members and sub-contractors.
  • Leading accident investigations and workplace inspections.
  • Advising staff on RP requirements in their respective work areas.
  • Leading oversight of the CNL sub-contractors execution of their RP Programs,
  • Ensuring both Port Granby and Port Hope sites, in general, are compliant with the requirements of the PHAI RP Plan and AECL Corporate RP program.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

The Health Physicist, level 2 will provide SME support and assist the Manager, HWP MO Radiation Protection, and the HP Lead in the development and maintenance of RP program elements as well as define and maintain RP Training to CNL staff, and oversee both internal and external dosimetry for CNL personnel and contractors utilizing CNL as their licensed dosimetry service.Once CNL Group 1 Health Physics Qualification is awarded, the Group 1 Health Physicist will assume all duties associated with a Group 1 Health Physicist for the Historic Waste Program as outlined in CNL’s company-wide radiation protection program outlined in 900-508740-PRD-001 and 900-508740-PDD-001.What we are looking for :Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of recommendations and guidelines of radiological protection standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment, and techniques used both in theory and practice.
  • Use of Microsoft computer software, knowledge, and use of databases.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet objectives and targets.
  • Ability to make decisions based on established requirements, procedures, and practices.
  • Ability to coordinate a small work team and/or technical staff.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and work in a hazardous environment.
  • Mature outlook and proven good judgment.
  • Knowledge of recommendations and guidelines of radiological protection standards, understanding of radiation protection philosophies, procedures, equipment, and techniques used both in theory and practice.
  • Ability to make decisions based on established requirements, procedures, and practices. Additional abilities and skills to include construction oversight, team management skills, and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).

Experience:Minimum 3 years (36 months) as an operational Health Physicist in a relevant related field or CNL Group 1 Health Physics Qualification.Education:

  • The position requires a University Degree in health physics or honours degree in science or engineering with postgraduate studies and/or experience in health physics or a related discipline.
  • A valid Ontario class “G” (or equivalent) driver’s license.

Security clearance eligibility required:Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
