Details:Mission and objectives:UNDSS is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system with the strategic aim of enabling the safest and most efficient conduct of mandated programmes and activities of the UN system worldwide.Context:This year marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). To commemorate this significant milestone, we are focusing on envisioning the future of UNDSS over the next two decades. As part of this initiative, we will be launching a podcast series and conducting a survey that delves into the evolving landscape of UN security and UNDSS’s role in it.
To connect with a diverse range of voices, we are building a comprehensive database of individuals and organizations to engage through the survey and podcast. Our target groups include stakeholders from academia, UN entities, governments, NGOs, INGOs, the private sector, and educational institutions.
This project is being led by the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) within the Strategic Planning Service (SPS) under the Office of the Under Secretary-General (OUSG) of the Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS).Task type:Communication and social mediaTask description:The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is seeking a skilled online volunteer in video and audio producing to help develop and lead the production of a new podcast series. This series will commemorate the 20th anniversary of UNDSS and focus on envisioning the future of UNDSS over the next two decades. The podcast will feature informed guests and robust discussions on the evolving landscape of UN security and UNDSS’s role in it.
The Online Volunteer will have the following tasks:– Develop and produce a weekly podcast series to be published on various platforms, including YouTube and podcast feeds.
– Collaborate closely with the Strategic Planning Unit (SPU) within the Strategic Planning Service (SPS) under the Office of the Under Secretary-General (OUSG) of UNDSS.
– Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academia, UN entities, governments, NGOs, INGOs, the private sector, and educational institutions, to gather insights and perspectives.
– Ensure high-quality audio and video production standards.
– Act independently while also working closely with the podcast host and the broader editorial team.Specific Tasks:Pre-production Planning:– Develop a detailed production schedule and timeline for the podcast series.
– Coordinate with SPU to outline podcast themes and topics.
– Identify and secure guest speakers from target groups.Production:– Set up and manage recording sessions, ensuring optimal audio and video quality.
– Direct and oversee the recording process, including interviews and discussions.
– Edit and finalize podcast episodes for publication.Post-production:– Review and edit audio and video content to ensure clarity and quality.
– Add necessary elements such as music, sound effects, and graphics.
– Prepare episodes for distribution on various platforms.Stakeholder Engagement:– Conduct outreach to potential guests and collaborators.
– Manage communications and scheduling with stakeholders.
– Gather feedback and incorporate it into future episodes.Quality Control:– Monitor and maintain high production standards.
– Troubleshoot any technical issues that arise during production.
– Ensure compliance with UNDSS guidelines and standards.Requirements:
- Proven experience in video production and editing (preferably in podcasting and journalism)
- Proficiency in taping and editing softwares, such as Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro
- Strong understanding of lighting, audio, and camera operation for high-quality video production
- Experience with remote recording workflows
- Outstanding editorial judgment, and strong communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated track record of producing high-quality work on ambitious deadlines and experience finding creative solutions to editorial problems
- Familiarity with YouTube and podcast distribution platforms
- Motion graphics and animation experience (preferred but not required)
