Above all, we will ensure our approach offers a deep sense of safety/respect, through a supportive, uplifting environment, that helps prisoners to see their potential and that unlocks a brighter future for all.Job objectives and responsibilitiesThe role of Senior Manager within the Residential Function involves ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, company policies and procedures, and HMPPS standards, policies, and procedures where applicable. As a Departmental Senior Manager, you will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of services across all residential functions, including Reception and Early Days in Custody (EDIC), with line management of Prison Custody Managers. This role also includes undertaking the responsibilities of Duty Director and chairing adjudications.You will promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of prison life. Additionally, you will support, supervise, motivate, and monitor staff to ensure an effective service is delivered across the prison. Leading the delivery of a safe, secure, and decent environment, you will create a ‘Rehabilitative & Restorative Culture’ for both staff and prisoners.The role involves supporting the Deputy Director, Director, and Heads of Functions in developing and delivering strategic priorities in line with Company values. Ensuring that prisoner care is of the highest possible standard is a key responsibility. You will supervise and direct performance within your function in the prison, adhering to the Contract and the broader requirements of Mitie Care and Custody.Leading within your function, you will manage risks effectively, implement proactive strategies to support performance improvement, and demonstrate agility and resilience in response to competing priorities. Taking charge of complex operational incidents and participating in incident management as required is also part of the role.You will represent the prison and engage with the wider community when necessary, developing meaningful stakeholder networks. With guidance from the Director, Deputy Director, and Heads of Functions, as well as Company Policy and the requirements of the Authority, you will develop, review, and update Policies and Procedures for the effective operation of the Prison.The role includes carrying out the duties of Duty Director and undertaking on-call duties as required, including evenings and weekends. You will contribute to the delivery and achievement of all performance measures, contract outcomes, and locally agreed targets, including KPIs and CDIs. Ensuring that operational and administrative duties, including the collection and maintenance of data, are completed in accordance with Prison policies and procedures is essential. You will also contribute to key people metrics to create a supportive environment for employees, focusing on turnover, attendance, compliance training, performance reviews, health and safety, and employee engagement.As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will undertake additional duties as required to contribute to the effective operation of the prisonPerson SpecificationThe role requires previous relevant experience in a custodial or secure environment. Candidates must have managerial experience leading a team of 5 to 15 staff. Intermediate IT skills are necessary, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.Operational experience in prisons is preferred. Candidates should have technical knowledge of relevant prison legislation, policies, standards, inspection and audit processes, and an understanding of the wider criminal justice system. Silver command training or a commitment to complete the training is desirable. Successful completion of incident and hostage management training, as well as adjudication training, or a commitment to complete these trainings, is also preferred.Candidates should have qualifications or relevant experience equivalent to Level 3 or above, such as A levels, Advanced Apprenticeship, AS Levels, International Baccalaureate diploma, Level 3 Awards, Certificates and Diplomas, or Level 3 NVQ accreditations.As a business, Mitie Care & Custody is committed to diversity and inclusion and we would welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds including veterans, those looking for a career change, and people who have experience in social care or a learning environment.
