To support the CEO, Headteachers and other members of the Senior Leadership team using professional knowledge and skills within a range of responsibilities set out below.

  • To provide day to day support to mangers and senior colleagues within a range of agreed policies and procedures to achieve the best outcomes for the setting and in accordance with the overall ethos and culture of the Academy group.
  • To review staff absence data collection to ensure it is used in accordance with best practice and management action is consistent with agreed procedures.
  • Ensure staff are referred to Occupational Health where necessary.
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of reasonable adjustments as recommended by Occupational Health.
  • Provide advice and guidance for non-sickness absence including emergency and special leave.
  • Ensure that all recruitment activity complies with legislation and best practice.
  • Ensure that all recruitment documentation is completed in a timely way and provide advice where necessary.
  • To set up and maintain a system of induction for all new starters to the Academy.
  • Advise on the creation of new job descriptions for all posts in the academy group and on job evaluation/grade for non-teaching staff sympathetic to the current NJC requirements.
  • To ensure that data is collected during the recruitment process and used to inform Senior Leadership colleagues to influence future recruitment activities.
  • Provide coaching and support to all managers to develop and enhance people management skills across a range of HR activities.
  • 12.To establish and maintain excellent working relationships with agreed Trade Union representatives in the academy group; to set up and take a lead role in the staff/representative forum.
  • 13.To ensure that there is an appropriate exit interview strategy in place and that data collected during this process is used to inform Senior Leadership colleagues highlighting any issues or patterns.
  • To review equality and diversity within the academy group staffing and make recommendations.
  • To promote effective performance management systems for all staff.
  • Support in the application of the agreed Appraisal system for teachers.
  • Implement a similar system for all non-teaching staff.
  • Co-ordinate each process and ensure that staff performance management reviews are undertaken by the appropriate line managers and suitable records are maintained.
  • Support the development of training plans for all non-teaching staff, including training for managers and staff to ensure that the system is effective.
  • Ensure that all participants are briefed on their responsibilities as an ongoing feature of the scheme

16.To audit the academy group HR and payroll database and manual files and make recommendations to ensure that all records are held securely and used in compliance with the Data Protection Act and GDPR.

17.To review contractual documentation on file to make sure that it is consistent with relevant legislation and best practice

. 18.Liaison with various outside agencies such as UK Border Agency, Disclosure and Barring Service and the Teaching Agency to resolve more complex employment issues.

19.To take a lead role in any future staffing structure re-organisation or transfer of undertakings (TUPE) into or out of the academy group.

Human Resources Manager Essential Qualifications

Educated to GCSE Standard at Grade 9 – 5 for a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics, or equivalent.

CIPD qualification or working towards or equivalent.

Experience

Experience of delivering an efficient and effective HR service.

Knowledge Working knowledge and experience of relevant HR issues, e.g., safer recruitment, disciplinary matters, staff appraisals and absence management and Skills

A relevant understanding of employment law. .

Ability to develop good working knowledge of HR policies and practice and school systems.

An up-to-date knowledge/understanding of HR good practice Experience of developing/updating HR policies and procedures.

Experience of consultation with a range of stakeholders.

Good communication (written and verbal) skills. Good organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritise.

High levels of numeracy and literacy.

Competent user of ICT with the ability to use Word and Excel confidently. Knowledge and understanding of Data Protection law and the GDPR 2018.

Other Requirements Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal sensitively with related 4 issues/individuals with tact, diplomacy and discretion.

Enthusiasm and initiative – along with the ability to be calm and efficient under pressure.

Good interpersonal skills and an ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders.

Ability to work independently, lead on activities where required and contribute as a team player.

Desirable Qualifications

A Degree or equivalent qualifications CIPD HR qualification Level 5 or above.

Experience of working in a school or in the education sector.

Experience of payroll and pensions procedures.

Knowledge and A knowledge of the education sector and some of the current issues facing schools. skills

Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities within an education environment and ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’.

Ability to use computerised systems and applications eg SIMS Please note:
