Applications are invited for a temporary post of a I-Form Business Development Manager within UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering

The I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre has been established by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to deliver high-impact, innovative science and engineering within manufacturing. The Centre brings together a multi-disciplinary team of over 100 PhD and Post-Doc researchers in manufacturing engineering, materials and data science, in a cross-disciplinary and translational research environment. I-Form operates in close collaboration with a network of companies, as well as leading manufacturing research Centres from around the globe.

I-Form, which stands for intelligent manufacturing combined with forming / fabrication, was conceived to deliver a step change in Irish manufacturing competitiveness and to be a world-leading Centre of expertise in advanced manufacturing. The Centre’s research programme is primarily focused on the development and application of advanced digital tools for materials processing technologies . Its research programme involves an innovative combination of material science, engineering, modelling and rapid data analytics using Artificial Intelligence. The Centre uses Additive Manufacturing as a key demonstration technology in its core research programme. The aim is to facilitate the manufacture of high-value components exhibiting enhanced material performance, while reducing processing times and achieving enhanced process reliability.

Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Business Development Manager will have a key role in extending and maintaining the Centre’s relationship with industry. The role will also identify and coordinate opportunities for collaboration with research organisations both nationally and internationally (companies, government, NGO’s etc.) This includes collaboration with industry in the securing of additional research funding and the involvement of industry partners in new funding applications. The Business Development Manager will work closely with state agencies such as Industrial Development Authority (IDA), Enterprise Ireland (EI) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) to identify and attract companies to collaborate with the Centre. The Business Development Manager will also lead the Centre’s Commercialisation Sub-Committee, including coordination of key IP decisions and the identification of spin-out opportunities from the Centre’s Research programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of the Centre’s business development strategy and achieving its business development goals and objectives. S/he will be responsible for understanding in detail the needs of industry and matching those to the emerging technologies and capabilities of the Centre’s research groups.

This full-time position is based in the I-Form operations office at University College Dublin.

Salary Range: €75,000- €85,000 per annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
