Our Academic Team currently offers several supports for Staff and Faculty at Humber College.About the Indigenous Curriculum & Pedagogy Specialist Role:Reporting to the Associate Dean, Indigenous Education & Engagement and working in collaboration with the Centre for Innovative Learning: Teaching Excellence Program, Digital Learning, Research and Innovation (RI) and Program Planning, Development and Renewal (PPDR) teams, the Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy Specialist supports the development, implementation and evaluation of co-curricular experiences, Indigenous Education programs, projects, and events, employee professional development, program development and review processes, and curriculum supports at Humber College. Applying knowledge of, and experience with, Indigenous cultures, perspectives, histories and contemporary experiences, the incumbent will support the development of programs and initiatives predominantly within.Key areas of responsibility:

  • Indigenous Education Programs, Projects, and Events
  • Facilitating and teaching the Indigenous Teaching & Learning Bundles
  • Employee Professional Development and Faculty Curriculum Supports
  • Program Development, Review, Quality Assurance of Indigenous Education

  • Minimum 4 year degree in a relevant field of study e.g. Indigenous studies, history, education, social sciences;
  • Master’s degree would be considered an asset.

Experience:

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in postsecondary education or experience within Indigenous education. Ideally, this experience includes working with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community, as well as involvement in assessment, curriculum development, and classroom teaching.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in engaging with Indigenous knowledge systems, histories, contemporary experiences, cultural practices, protocols, and pedagogies.
  • Developed research skills, including methods and methodologies that are consistent with and appropriate for engaging with Indigenous Ways of Being, Knowing, and Doing.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, including the ability to develop and maintain relationships with colleagues, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and other members of Indigenous communities.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning experience, with evidence of critical thinking and analytical skills to assess opportunities, develop Indigenous Education initiatives, and directly engage with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in and contribute to an integrated and collaborative team environment, applying a positive team approach, building consensus, and leading integrated project teams.
  • Strong knowledge of Indigenization and its complexities in education, including the TRC’s Final Report and Calls to Action, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls report.
  • Awareness of colonial histories in Canada and the impacts of colonization on Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.
