Reporting to the Associate Vice President Indigenous Engagement and Education External, the Indigenous Engagement and Education Specialist will support the strategic direction of the department as outlined in the Indigenous Education Plan (2024-2026) in conjunction with the colleges overall strategic direction.The incumbent supports engagement, growth and retention initiatives that reinforce the departments strategic goals that embody values of reconciliation, Indigenization, decolonization, innovation, partnerships, and collaboration. The role emphasizes reciprocal relationship with Indigenous communities, donors, and partnerships that advance institutional commitments to Indigenous education.Accountable for internal and external communications infrastructure across the college and surrounding communities to enhance learning experiences, outreach and brand awareness rooted in the Indigenous Engagement and Education Plan (2024-2026). The incumbent also supports events, programming and learning series for the department.What You’ll Be Doing
- Organizing and supporting the Office of Indigenous Engagement and Education(OIEE) activities -related training and events, ensuring high quality and professionalism through effective planning and coordination.
- Creating marketing materials and supporting donor relations events; engages the community through social media in alignment with the Indigenous Engagement and Education Plan
- Promoting events, providing technical support to participants, and optimizing outreach and services through performance measurement systems.
- Identifying and analyzing potential donors by developing a prospecting list, and planning donor-centered activities.
- Preparing draft Memorandums of Understanding and Partnership Agreements for approval.
- Developing communication materials for fundraising, events, preparing a draft Annual Report, acquiring culturally appropriate gifts, and monitoring central Indigenous Education and accessibility emails.
- Promoting events, providing technical support to participants, and optimizing outreach and services through performance measurement systems.
- Providing support and guidance to the internal Sheridan community to engage in reconciliation, Indigenization and decolonization related events and programming.
- Fostering positive relationships within the Sheridan community to promote Indigenous Engagement, reconciliation, and equitable best practices.
- Delivering high quality service and communications to Indigenous partners and external relations.
- Providing administrative support to the AVP and OIEE, maintains a database of activities, and prepares statistical reports.
- Monitoring the annual budget, processes payments, and improves administrative procedures by creating templates and reporting documents.
- Participating in other projects and initiatives as assigned.

- Indigenous citizenship is strongly preferred.
- 3-year college diploma or university degree in related field such as Indigenous Studies in History, Governance, Language, Arts and related fields, Event Management, Administration, Social Sciences, and business.
- 3-year minimum experience and knowledge related to current trends, issues, legislation, regulation and best practices in areas of Indigenous education, Indigenization, philanthropy, human rights, reconciliation, equity and inclusion. (equivalency to be considered)
- Informed and comprehensive understanding of Indigenous history, policies, reconciliation framework – Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), international frameworks -United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and Indigenous Justice frameworks -Missing Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG)Report essential.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to strategize with the AVP on innovative models for achieving goals.
- History of successful events management.
- Comprehensive understanding of donor relations and advancement.
- Strong social media skills; Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse constituencies in a team environment.

- Experience in a post-secondary, multi-union environment is preferred.
- Awareness of student environments, campus systems and organizations, and the College’s policies and procedures related to Indigenous engagement and education, student life and activities strongly preferred.
- Proficient with computer software (e.g. MS Office Suite, WebEx, Zoom) and experienced with website content maintenance.
