Our Chalk River location is looking for an Instrumentation & Control Designer to support our Assembly, Commissioning, and Electrical branch. - Assisting in the design, development, assembly, testing, qualification and operation of the instrumentation and control associated with mechanical equipment and components.
- Selecting of instrumentation, sensors, motors, drives, power supplies and data acquisition hardware.
- Maintaining records and preparing memos, reports and other documentation.
- Creating wiring and electrical drawings.
- Developing software for the operation of custom automated mechanical systems.
- Providing field support of mechanical equipment used in nuclear plants for inspection, maintenance, forensics and operation.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education/Experience
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, such as instrumentation and control design, electrical engineering technology or software development or equivalent formal education OR Alternatively, a Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent with 3 years of relevant experience, additional education, and/or training may be accepted.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to innovate.
- Ability to design electrical and control systems.
- Ability to read and create panel layouts, cable, and wiring drawings/diagrams.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical and control systems.
- Ability to assemble simple electrical systems.
- Ability to perform laboratory testing and commissioning of electronic equipment.
- Ability to use CAD software, particularly AutoCAD electrical.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering design practices, circuit analysis, component selection, and assembly techniques.
- Knowledge of sensors, transducers, electric machines, motors, sensors, electric heaters, and PID controllers, as well as when to utilize them.
- Knowledge of CSA codes and standards in relation to the design of electrical equipment and tooling.
- Knowledge of radiation protection practices and the selection of materials and equipment for use in high-radiation environments is an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Moderate physical demands, some periodic and minor exposure to loud noises, chemicals, metals, sharp objects, heights, confined spaces, radiological hazards, stationary machinery and vehicles, and exposure to electrical hazards.
- Work is conducted primarily in an office, prototyping and machine shop, and in an instrumentation and control laboratory. Work may have to be performed in the field, including in inclement weather and in radiologically controlled areas.
