Greenwich, CT Public Schools seeks an Interim Assistant Principal for Julian Curtiss Elementary School for the 2024-25 school year. A magnet school of World Languages located in central Greenwich, Julian Curtiss (JC) proudly serves a student body of over 250 students in grades PreK-5. JC’s Mission Statement states, “The Julian Curtiss School works in partnership with our children, their families, and the community to provide a quality education that has high expectations for student success and excellence. The diversity of our children is recognized as a source of strength and a reflection of our world.” The school’s tagline represents its population, describing JC as a school with 60 countries, 30 languages, ONE great school; JC has often been referred to as the “Little United Nations School of Greenwich.”The Assistant Principal will assist the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. This will include such responsibilities as: leading, directing, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective family, teacher, and child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and families; and managing budget items. The Assistant Principal will serve as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program. The Assistant Principal will act in the capacity of the principal during the principal’s absence from the school.The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of a school in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.Individuals interested in more detail about the position are encouraged toESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in developing and establishing the school goals and objectives and planning the school’s instructional program.
  • Assists in defining and disseminating information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to families, students, staff, and community.
  • Assists in developing and administering school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to personalized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
  • Prepares class schedules, master schedules, and extracurricular activities.
  • Assists in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
  • Supervises departments as assigned.
  • Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students’ needs, including students with special needs.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resources issues.
  • Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
  • Encourages family involvement in students’ education and ensures effective communication with students and families.
  • Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with the school’s standards and school district policies.
  • Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district’s evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement, and continued employment.
  • Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as how to differentiate instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation, and staff supervision.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance, and professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Passion for innovative thinking and inquiry approach to instruction
  • Excellent understanding of personalized learning, educational best practices, and the use of data to inform instruction
  • Eligibility for Connecticut State Intermediate Administrator Certification (#092)
  • Previous school administrative experience preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Standard administrator work schedule including attendance at Board meetings and other meetings as needed.
  • Carries out his/her professional responsibilities to the extent required by the operational programs of the Greenwich Board of Education.
