Scion Nonprofit Staffing (www.scionnonprofitstaffing.com) has been retained to lead an urgent search for an Interim Executive Director on behalf of our partner, a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing animal welfare programs and services. The Interim Executive Director will report to and consult with the Board of Directors in Portland, OR. This is a remote position, but candidates must be located in Oregon.This role is intended for a highly motivated leader with a passion for animal welfare and a deep understanding of nonprofit operations and growth strategies. The ideal candidate will have nonprofit leadership experience with a track record of successfully leading organizations through change, building strong relationships with donors, and guiding teams through leadership transitions. Additionally, candidates should have a hands-on leadership style, the ability to innovate within the nonprofit space, and a strong ability to collaborate with senior leadership, including the founder, to drive the organization’s mission forward. This is a high-impact role requiring someone who is ready to dive in immediately and make a difference.
The Perks:Help an impactful animal welfare organization through a leadership transition!Manage an incredible staff of employees and a budget size of $8M+!Get started immediately in an interim role!What You Will Be Doing:Conduct an organizational analysis to determine the health of each program and department, making recommendations for improvements.Oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations, finances, and programs, including managing a senior staff, supporting all staff, and responsibly allocating resources.Manage the structuring and implementation of budgets and fiscal controls.Assess the existing managerial and leadership structure; implement best practices and norms as appropriate.Effectively encourage, supervise, and motivate staff to work together collaboratively and monitor staff performance.Participate in the budgeting and fund development process.Participate and consult on organizational fundraising opportunities, with a strong focus on relationship-building with donors.Ensure compliance and regulatory requirements of the organization, particularly in areas of nonprofit governance and legal matters.Contribute to board meetings and maintain regular communication with Board Chairman.Participate in hiring and termination of employees if necessary and make recommendations for new positions if needed.Support internal and external communication efforts related to the executive transition.What You Have to Offer:Nonprofit leadership experience with a strong understanding of community engagement, finance, operations, and strategic planning.Experience in fundraising and donor relations, with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships with major donors.The ability to drive innovation and think outside the box in nonprofit environments.A hands-on management style with a collaborative approach to leadership, particularly with senior leadership teams.A passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to guiding the organization through a leadership transition.A deep understanding of nonprofit-specific rules, regulations, and compliance requirements.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with staff, board members, donors, and stakeholders.Strong moral standards and a commitment to upholding ethical leadership principles.Compensation & Additional Details:
This interim opportunity offers an hourly range of $90-95/hr. In addition, this role offers medical, dental, vision, and voluntary life insurance, an employee assistance plan (EAP), and commuter and transit benefits for those who are working on average 30 or more hours per week.
