If you are a talented Accountant with Construction industry experience, Aplin has the right opportunity for you! Our Calgary-based client is seeking an Intermediate Accountant to oversee their general accounting operations. This is a permanent position and is available to candidates in Calgary, AB.
Benefits & Perks:
- Compensation: $70,000 to $80,000
- Hybrid work structure
- Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Responsibilities:
- Assist project teams with questions or needs related to accounting for jobs
- Set up new job contracts according to statement of values
- Change order entry
- Prepare and analyze job cost reports
- Investigate any unbilled project costs
- Prepare job invoices
- Reconciling bank and credit card statements
- Perform payroll function for all personnel
- Set up and verify new vendors
- Review approved subcontractor billing for accuracy
- Reconcile accounts payable
- Support month-end and year-end close processes and assist with reports
- File monthly GST returns
- Analyze financial information for accuracy and summarize financial status
- Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures to improve efficiency and reduce spending
- Provide input into the department’s goal-setting process
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles
- Assisting with corporate, legal, government and other regulatory filings as required
- Liaise with Project Staff to improve financial procedures
- Other duties as assigned to meet corporate objectives
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of related full-cycle accounting experience, including job costing and payroll
- Experience in the construction industry
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles for private companies (ASPE)
- Awareness of business trends
- Familiarity with financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience with Quickbooks Online
- Experience with new systems implementation is an asset
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office along with the ability to quickly learn new applications
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- A team player, personable, organized, energetic, and possess strong communication skills
