This position is located in the Centres Operations Section (COS), Information Centre Services (ICS) of the Campaigns and Country Offices Division (CCOD) in the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The COS provides administrative, finance, and budget support to a global network of 59 United Nations information centres (UNICs), which are field offices of the DGC that promote the work of the Organization to a local audience in local language. The incumbent is under the overall supervision of the Chief of COS and under the direct supervision of the Finance Assistant in the team. The selected intern will perform duties including, but not limited to the following: • Assist in updating the internal SharePoint site with relevant information for UNIC colleagues. • Assisting with basic data management and analysis. • Assist in drafting routine correspondences notes and any other communication as required. • Perform other tasks as needed.Qualifications/special skillsPlease note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Candidates for our internship positions are not required to have professional experience, though it can be of benefit to the office if you have interests, skills and knowledge in the areas below: • Keen interest in international affairs, international organizations, management and change • Strong planning, writing and communication skills • Attention to detail and a passion for researching big-picture issues • Familiarity with the United Nations is desirable. Applicants must also: • Good knowledge of Microsoft software applications especially MS word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint. • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
