Job description

Responsibilities of the internship position encompass all aspects of the Directorate’s work. These responsibilities may include but are not limited to: • Assist in analysing and interpreting counter-terrorism instruments and laws from a human rights perspective. • Researches and collects information pertaining to human rights and counter-terrorism matters. • Assists in the preparation of analytical human rights background and briefing papers. • Assists in drafting reports, summary notes and correspondence relating to human rights matters, as appropriate. • Maintains awareness of relevant human rights issues, including at country level. • Assists in preparing documents needed for the organization of workshops, seminars and briefings. • Liaises with external partners, as appropriate. • Performs other related duties as required.Qualifications/special skillsTo qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme applicants must, at the time of their submission, be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master’s degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences or a related field, OR have graduated with a university degree as defined above AND, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period from the date of graduation.LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required.Additional InformationNot available.Intern Specific textInterns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
