The internship is in the Campaigns and Country Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications, in the Peace and Security Section. The Peace and Security Section promotes the United Nations work on priority peace and security-related issues, including conflict prevention, peacemaking, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, disarmament and counter-terrorism through the design and implementation of global communications strategies; production and dissemination of public information materials; and outreach activities.

Two internship positions are available. The internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension up to six (6) months, depending on the needs of the Division and availability of the candidate.

The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days a week (35 hours) in person or remotely under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

=Responsibilities=
The selected intern may perform some of the following functions:

– Provide editorial support for the development of a new peace and security website, including drafting content around issues concerning conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, disarmament, counter-terrorism and others, under the supervision of the staff member leading the project.

– Conduct research on pertinent and relevant issues that can be developed into infographics as well as web and social media content.

– Assist with developing the web content architecture with support from relevant offices and help to organize the information accordingly.

– Organize meetings, draft notes and oversee logistics in coordination with the web development and design teams.

– Keep web development documents, including wireframes and mockups, organized and up to date.

– When the opportunity arises, help with the development and drafting of communications strategies, press releases and presentations, under the supervision of relevant colleagues.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Additional knowledge with web and social media tools such as Drupal, Canva and Trello is an advantage.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

United Nations Considerations
According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount
consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards
of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates will not be considered for employment
with the United Nations if they have committed violations of international human rights law,
violations of international humanitarian law, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, or sexual
