Job description
Background and Objectives The United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund (UNPDF) was established in 2016, following the pledge by the Government of the People’s Republic of China to contribute $200 million US dollars to the United Nations over a ten-year period. The UN and the Donor Government aim to work together to achieve the goals of the Charter of the UN through implementation of innovative, forward-looking and pro-active projects and activities financed by the Trust Fund. The UNPDF is composed of two sub-funds: the Peace and Security Sub-Fund and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Sub-Fund (2030 Agenda Sub-Fund). The Peace and Security Sub-Fund focuses on maintenance of international peace and security, including through support to mediation, preventive diplomacy, electoral assistance, and peace building activities. And the 2030 Agenda Sub-Fund focuses on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs. The Programme Management Teams of the two Sub-Funds are located within the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) and the Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and are responsible to discharge the daily operational management duties for each Sub -Fund, including monitoring and evaluation of funded projects and the oversight of financial requirements. The following are the duties to be expected: • Assists in drafting, editing and proofreads several material including reports and presentations. • Researches and processes a variety of documentation and correspondence related to UNPDF funds and sub-funds. • Generates a variety of standard statistical reports, work orders, etc., using various databases. • Assists in information management, through compiling and organizing information and reference materials from various sources. • Supports the calendar of appointments/meetings, attends meetings and supports in notetaking. • Performs related administrative duties as requested by the supervisor. • Assists in other ad-hoc activities as requested.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants to the United Nations Internship Programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: 1) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher such Master’s degree or equivalent, Ph.D or post-graduate degree). 2) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
