In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. The Liaison Officer’s role will be committed to the relational philosophy of international partnerships through collaborative relationships specific to an educational environment.Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution. Master degree is preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Excellent cross-cultural skills.
- Knowledge of multi-cultural and geopolitical issues.
- Experience in working with diverse student populations.
- Must use judgement and possess the ability to recognize the appropriate procedure to apply in each situation encountered. Must be able to handle emergencies. Must minimize unnecessary risks safeguarding the wellbeing of students and colleagues. Must be preemptive, anticipating and preparing for contingencies, asking supervisor for guidance if needed.
- Personal qualities must include adaptability to a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, patience, creativity, empathy, tolerance for ambiguity, good crisis management skills.
- Personal skills must include maintaining open communication channels. Positive attitude and desire to learn. Must foster an atmosphere of positive teamwork.
- Possess administrative experience, be a self-starter, well organized and detailed oriented worker. Must be able to prioritize projects and tasks.
- Display high level of dedication to Brenau University. Must arrive punctually, observe scheduled hours, dress professionally, use vacation and wellness hours leave appropriately and according to university’s policies.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and tact.
- Ability to speak multiple languages is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Support Brenau’s partnership policy process.
- Maintain and help develop relationships as well as create opportunities for increased communication with prospective international students, the Brenau student population as well as the campus community at large.
- Helps identify opportunities abroad that will result in global programs to benefit Brenau students and facilitate engagement of Brenau faculty. Ensures the implementation of such global engagement initiatives which include virtual interactions and/or any form of academic or experiential learning mobility programs such as Short International Programs (SIPs), Study Abroad, International Research or Placement for Global Internships.
- Helps develop relationships and provides increased communication and collaboration with educational institutions, foreign government agencies, US Federal and State agencies, international organizations, NGO’s and other civil society groups in countries deemed of strategic importance.
- Assists with the preparation of critical documents to support the flow of work with international partners such as MOUs, program proposals, reports, and others.
- Planning and coordination of the agenda and logistical needs for delegations and visiting faculty from international partner agencies, organizations and universities. Assists with the coordination of the agenda and logistical arrangements for Brenau delegations traveling abroad.
- Works with other departments to coordinate campus wide events with the specific goal of furthering cultural awareness and competency.
- Helps plan, coordinate and deliver logistical support for international educational programs in programs offered in the U.S. and abroad.
- Ensures compliance with internal regulations and policies.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities required.Work Hours & Schedule:
37.5 hours per week. Generally Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department. Some evening and weekend hours. The Miller Institute for Global Education is considered an essential department due to the services it provides to international students.Campus Designation:

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to travel short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
