OverviewAll who are selected to participate in CFR’s Blavatnik Internship Program and Robina Franklin Williams Internship Program receive training in the field of foreign policy and international affairs as well as skills training in writing, research, program planning and much more.The Latin America program analyzes the dynamic relationships between the United States and the nations in the Western Hemisphere. The intern will assist a fellow for Latin America Studies on projects researching democratization, corruption, the rule of law, and organized crime in Latin America as well as U.S.-Latin America relations, with a special focus on Central America and the Andes region.CFR internships are paid, require a 14 – 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.CFR’s fall internship program gives interns the opportunity to choose whether to work in our office in a hybrid capacity (half in the office, and half remote), or on an offsite fully remote basis.The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Research specific areas for blog posts, articles, and other publications with a focus on democratization, corruption, the rule of law, and organized crime in Latin America as well as U.S.-Latin America relations
  • Conduct research for fellow’s current book project
  • Collect news articles from U.S. and Latin American newspapers for a weekly news roundup
  • Assist in logistical support for meetings
  • Attend general meetings as time permits

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with a concentration in International Relations, Economics, or Latin American Studies
  • All applicants should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship)
  • Fluency in Spanish (with an emphasis on reading) preferred, Portuguese fluency a plus
  • STATA R work/internship experience is a plus
  • Excellent computer skills, including database experience, Microsoft Office Suite, and internet research skills
  • Strong research, proofreading, and editing skills
