The opportunityExciting opportunity for an Investment Associate to join our External Managers Group (XMG) based in Toronto ON. We are looking for future portfolio managers! Being an Associate in XMG offers an excellent opportunity to start down that path and gain first-hand experience with a wide variety of absolute return strategies.This role requires solid market knowledge and quantitative skills to successfully analyze portfolio risk exposures and strategy performance in changing and evolving market environments. These skills traverse finance, economics and statistical disciplines.Who you’ll work withXMG consists of diverse investment professionals, based in Toronto and London, and it includes a team dedicated solely to hedge fund and insurance linked strategies. Their mandate is to produce absolute and uncorrelated returns by investing in various strategies, adding diversification to the larger investment portfolio. You will work within the Hedge Fund team, and report to a senior member of the team. As part of a dynamic trading floor environment, the Associate will be able to interact and work with other groups in Capital Markets, leveraging the expertise of over 70 investment professionals.What you’ll doMonitor and report on key drivers of risk, exposure and profit/loss across individual managers and strategies and the overall Hedge Fund absolute return portfolioWork with external providers to build world class infrastructure, technology, and tools for analyzing position-level data in hedge fund and insurance linked strategies.Use tools to perform advanced analysis that supports strategic portfolio construction and tactical investment decisions.Assist in the due diligence process on external hedge fund managers and insurance partners.Help structure creative solutions to better implement the selected strategies.Provide regular, high-quality inputs to a collegial decision-making process regarding the total Hedge Funds portfolio.Strong team player and willingness to develop other team members.Build effective partnerships with key external stakeholders.Partner and communicate with the broader team in Toronto, London and ensuring appropriate parties are kept informed and engaged.Develop analytics, driving meaningful insights and develops recommendations to leadership.Ability to balance competing priorities, work independently, manage projects and thrive in a high-performance team environment with strict deadlines.What you’ll needUndergraduate/post-graduate degree in a related technical discipline (e.g. economics, business, engineering, computer science) finance or business administration.Minimum 3 years of relevant experience at an investment bank, asset manager, hedge fund, or fund-of-funds.Experience and interest in Insurance Linked Securities is preferred.A passion for technology and data analytics leveraging tools such as Bloomberg.Ability to model complex strategies is an asset.Excellent written and oral communication skills and a keen ability to convey technical information visually via Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.Creativity, a strong work ethic, and initiative.#LI-JF1What we’re offeringPay-for-performance environment that offers competitive salary and incentiveNumerous opportunities for professional growth and developmentComprehensive employer paid benefits coverageRetirement income through a defined benefit pension planThe opportunity to invest back into the fund through our Deferred Incentive ProgramA flexible/hybrid work environment combining in office collaboration and remote workingCompetitive time offOur Flexible Travel Program gives you the option to work abroad in another region/country for up to a month each yearEmployee discount programs including Edvantage and PerkopolisAt Ontario Teachers’, diversity is one of our core strengths.
