The Action aims to support the Greek authorities, with the provision of targeted reception support and critical integration services, aiming to a smooth transition to the national integration programme, namely the HELIOS1+ also implemented by IOM. As a result, it is expected that the Action will contribute to the beneficiaries’ smooth and sustainable integration in the country, as well as to enhanced solidarity and fair responsibility sharing among EUMS.
Under the overall supervision of the Project Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Senior Operations Assistant, the successful candidate will provide support in implementing project activities through provision of interpretation and/ or translation services.
- Assists with interpretation for effective communication between IOM staff and beneficiaries.
- Facilitate communication, through interpretation and / or translation, in a spoken or written language understood by each beneficiary, between the beneficiaries and the staff employed under the action , in order to ensure that beneficiaries understand all activities which are being developed, satisfying their demands and meeting their needs.
- Provide information to the staff in order to assist the latter in comprehending the perceptions of the beneficiaries and acting as a cultural mediator during the adjustment period to their new environment.
- Assist with interpretation during the escorting of the potentially beneficiaries of the action to public/ private entities.
- Assist with the interpretation between beneficiaries and other entities linked with the action.
- Translate information materials to be disseminated to participants.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
- High school degree/certificate with minimum one year of relevant work experience; or.
- University degree in Interpretation/Translation, Social Science, Humanities, or relevant discipline would be considered as an advantage.
- Previous experience in a similar role preferred;
- Familiar with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees preferred;
- Previous experience working with children preferred;
- Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment an advantage.
- Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
- Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc). Certification of computer literacy will be an asset;
- Valid driver’s license with at least five years driving experience an advantage;
- Personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility.
- Fluency in Greek certified working knowledge of English (oral and written) is required.
- Fluency in Farsi (written and oral) is required. Working knowledge of Arabic would be an advantage.
