Context

Established in 1951, and operational in Pakistan since 1981, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, inter-governmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  1. Support in information gathering and coordinating information collection processes for the Humanitarian and Resilience Unit to support  generation of regular and quality information products and reporting.
  2. Provide technical support for analysis of data as well as visualization for presentation to internal and external counterparts (such as handouts, gap analysis, power point presentation) and reporting to donors as required.
  3. Regularly inform the Programme Coordinator regarding activities, project status, and provide regular support as required
  4. Maintain contact with relevant humanitarian and development counterparts and implementing partners in line with regular or special needs.
  5. Compile documents or regular updates for inputting into the humanitarian projects, activities, situation reports, briefing and background information required by the donors, inter-agency coordination groups and other entities.
  6. Liaise with UN agencies, sectoral coordination groups and participate in IM Network meetings as required.
  7. Coordinate information management requests with the relevant partner teams in the field.
  8. Provide support for needs assessment and analysis, including adequate attention given to the needs and challenges by gender and of vulnerable groups.
  9. Support adequate levels of information sharing between internal units, programme partners, IOM and other humanitarian response actors.
  10. Track all donor reporting requirements and provide alerts to implementing partner reporting/IM focal points for regular reporting.
  11. Stay up to date regarding assessments and reports produced by other agencies and organizations and extract relevant and important information for reference and use by the programme
  12. Ensure gender and protection against sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) guidance is taken into account and mainstreamed throughout area of responsibility
  13. Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Education
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience;
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
  • Experience in liaising with government authorities, inter-governmental institutions, UN agencies and national and international NGOs;
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the humanitarian and resilience building context in Pakistan, and of the vulnerabilities experienced by vulnerable populations;
  • Experience of the use of information management in emergency operations context;
  • Expertise of Esri ArcGIS software and other GIS-related software;
  • Documented experience of using system analysis methods and data modelling tools, relational databases and object-oriented programming would be an advantage;
  • Experience using two or more of the following tools: Access, Visual Basic, Java, SQL or Oracle;
  • Experience in the development and implementation of population database systems (such as registrations, census or surveys).
Skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications; R/Python, SPSS/STATA
  • Knowledge/experience using Power BI or Tableau
  • Ability to compile and holistically analyze diverse datasets
  • Knowledge in advanced data visualization and information design skills
  • Knowledge of data protection guidelines and principles
  • Excellent writing, communication, and negotiation skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain trust and good working relationships with counterparts;
  • Capacity for creative thinking;
  • Team-oriented, but with capacity to work independently and with minimal supervision;
  • Personal commitment, efficiency, and flexibility;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to deliver under tight timelines;
Languages

Required

  • IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
  • For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Urdu and any of the Pakistani regional languages is an advantage
