As a Joiner, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be joining a pro-active and engaging team of highly motivated and skilled professionals working on complex and cutting-edge equipment and systems. This role offers excellent development opportunities as well as access to specialised training to further enhance your skill set.Day-to-day, you’ll undertake joinery, carpentry and locksmith activities utilising your skill set determining the best way to investigate, rectify and repair faults at HMNB Clyde.

  • Completion of joinery, carpentry and locksmith work to ensure the department meets the objectives of the business.
  • Ensure work is carried out in line with current processes and make suggestions on improving systems and processes to increase productivity.
  • Work within all health & safety legislation, safe systems of work and control of work processes within Clyde policies.
  • This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based at Clyde, Faslane.Babcock is committed to supporting agile ways of working to enable a better work-life balance. We are currently developing Self-Directed Teams (SDT) within the Infrastructure Maintenance Department, which allows our employees to own and deliver work packages – therefore improving efficiency, encouraging empowerment and supporting development opportunities through various team tasks. Successful delivery of key objectives for the week may result in being given the Friday off work.Essential Experience of the Joiner

  • Previous experience as a practising joiner.
  • Experience in the operation of fixed and portable woodworking machinery and Locksmith Activities would be advantageous.
  • Experience of Maintenance Procedures, Risk, and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments and Safe Systems of Work.

Qualifications for the Joiner

  • Recognised Joinery Apprenticeship qualified to SVQ Level 3 (NVQ and C&G equivalent) or hold an HNC or above in a Joinery with relevant work experience.
  • Full UK driving licence would be desirable.
