Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Junior Accountant will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the finance team’s day-to-day operations to meet its obligations to internal and external stakeholders. You will be supporting the team in executing our accounting close cycle including, accounts payable, reconciliations, tax compliance, etc. to ensure we meet our reporting deadlines. You will also support projects that make us more efficient as a team as we look to constantly improve our processes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable (including vendor and invoice management) and management of our credit card program.
  • Administering the company’s expense policies, including collecting supporting receipts and ensuring expenses are reviewed, authorized, and reconciled against our bank accounts and credit cards.
  • Completing month-end procedures in an accurate and timely manner. Assisting with preparation of entries to the general ledger accounts, reconciliations, and other assigned tasks to support the financial close process.
  • Implementing and maintaining our documented system of accounting policies and procedures and ensuring adherence to controls.
  • Assisting with year-end duties; preparing working paper for audit/review engagements as needed.
  • Supporting with ad-hoc requests as needed.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates that have:

  • Bachelor of Commerce specializing in accounting or finance.
  • 1-2 years of experience in an accounting role is preferable. Experience in the SaaS industry is a bonus.
  • You will ideally be working towards completing the CPA designation (our $5000/year professional development budget can help you achieve this goal).
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

You also have:

  • A growth mindset, pushing yourself to new heights, especially under pressure, and a big team player attitude.
  • An obsession with accuracy, exceptional attention to detail, and strong Excel and Google Sheets skills.
  • A high degree of resourcefulness and a self-starter. In a startup, we don’t always have the answers. It excites you to take on the challenge of solving new puzzles that might be uncomfortable.
  • Strong multi-tasking capabilities getting your daily tasks completed while supporting ongoing projects.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP is considered an asset.
  • Familiar with using a finance tech stack such as ERP, GSuite, expense management solutions, etc is a plus.
  • Previous exposure to Netsuite is not necessary, but an asset.
  • An interest in SaaS / Technology business models and metrics, keeping up with market trends.
  • Excitement to work in a fast-moving and growing company.
