Job Title: Boys Junior High Basketball Coach (Second Sport/Teaching Assignment to be Determined)Job Summary:The Boys Junior High Basketball Coach will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the boys’ basketball program at the junior high level. The primary focus will be on player development, team strategy, and fostering a positive and competitive team culture while working closely with student-athletes, assistant coaches, school staff, and parents to ensure a successful and rewarding experience for all team members.Responsibilities:
- Coaching and Training:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that focuses on fundamental skills, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning.
- Conduct regular practices and training sessions to improve individual and team performance.
- Provide constructive feedback and instruction to players to help them develop their skills and prepare for the transition to high school basketball.
- Foster a supportive and encouraging environment that promotes teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
- Game Strategy and Management:
- Develop game plans and strategies tailored to the strengths and weaknesses of the team and opponents.
- Make in-game adjustments as necessary to maximize the team’s chances of success.
- Manage substitutions, timeouts, and other strategic decisions during games.
- Teach players how to effectively execute offensive and defensive strategies.
- Program Development:
- Collaborate with assistant coaches to coordinate the overall program and ensure alignment with the high school basketball program.
- Recruit and retain talented student-athletes to ensure the long-term success of the program.
- Organize off-season training opportunities, such as camps and clinics, to enhance player development and team cohesion.
- Establish clear expectations for behavior, academic performance, and sportsmanship.
- Player Development and Support:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to student-athletes on and off the court.
- Monitor academic progress and ensure that student-athletes maintain eligibility to participate in sports.
- Serve as a positive role model and advocate for the personal and athletic development of all players.
- Communicate effectively with players and their parents to address concerns and promote a positive team culture.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of team statistics, rosters, and schedules.
- Coordinate with school administrators and athletic department staff on matters related to scheduling, transportation, and facility use.
- Ensure compliance with all school, district, and league policies and regulations.
- Assist with fundraising activities and budget management for the basketball program.
Qualifications:
- Previous coaching experience, preferably at the junior high or high school level.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and techniques.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to achieve their goals.
- Understanding of the physical and emotional development of adolescent boys.
- Commitment to promoting a positive team culture.
- Valid coaching certification and completion of required training courses
- Arkansas teaching license
Physical Demands
- Frequent travel to school district offices and classrooms
- Frequent walking throughout various buildings
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Moderate lifting and carrying from 15 to 30 pounds
- Manual dexterity to use equipment
