Role Overview:The ERM Zone is tasked with executing all activities related to ERM Zone.The Junior Supervisor will effectively lead and supervise employees through direction provided by a qualified Job Supervisor. Accountable to their work group manager, the Junior Supervisor assists the Maintenance Supervisor in ensuring equipment, resources, and support groups are operated and maintained in compliance with CNL’s procedures and regulatory guidelines.Additionally, the Junior Supervisor will uphold management’s expectations for safe work practices, address performance and time management issues, and enforce consequences for not adhering to safe work practices at job sites.Working under the guidance of a Maintenance, Supervisor the Junior Supervisor will ensure completion of all paperwork, adherence to procedures, and compliance with safety regulations. They will also provide planning, oversight, and support for both routine and non-routine work activities to maintain the structures and operating systems of the Facility.Responsibilities:Oversight and Execution of Site Operations:

  • Assist with maintaining a Supervisor Log of the field work daily notes.
  • Participate in the IWC process to support the development of work plans and strategies.
  • Review and Comment (R&C) on various documents.
  • Support the supervisor during accounting for staff in response to emergencies.
  • Respond to calls during non-business hours and resolve emergency calls.
  • Work with Trades, Projects, and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the decommissioning program and to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution.
  • Support the supervisor to supervise and delegate work to team members.
  • Act as Job Lead for various activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site.
  • Support the supervisor to own and manage job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices, traffic and pedestrian control, and supporting the maintenance of the facility in a fully compliant state.
  • Support and/or lead Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensure pre- and post-job briefs are completed.
  • Ensure adherence to field work plans and permits including hold points and signoffs prior to advancement.
  • Other duties as required to mentor with and support the assigned Job Supervisor.

People Development and Employee Engagement:

  • Provide frequent oversight and supervision for staff. Provide regular training, observation, monitoring, coaching, instruction, recognition, feedback and corrective action to ensure each team member is performing according to expectations.
  • Document observations, provide regular reports and escalate matters to the attention of Supervisor and Manager (where appropriate).
  • Provide immediate feedback and re-instruction to staff as appropriate to ensure employee compliance with expectations for performance and as outlined in the CNL Code of Conduct.
  • Support the Supervisor and Manager to ensure employee participation in required training.
  • Assist the Supervisor to carry out plans established by the Manager to support employees to perform and to comply with performance expectations.
  • Support the supervisor to authorize timesheets, leave approvals, vacation and overtime by confirming employee attendance, leave and exceptions.
  • Offer guidance and coaching as deemed necessary, providing support and mentorship to individuals as they navigate challenges and seek improvement in their performance.

  • Ensure all safety management programs are followed, including the completion of all required training.

  • Ability to obtain full Job Supervisor qualification within the expected/agreed upon time period.
  • Well-developed leadership and communication skills including the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented work environment in a unionized environment;
  • Must have demonstrated interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work smoothly and effectively with customers, colleagues and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and to lead others in such conditions;
  • Familiar with emergency procedures and responsibilities.
  • Must be self-motivated, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to interact with peers, other departments, and external vendor.
  • Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements and contamination control.
  • Be capable of obtaining Radiation Protection Group 3 certification.
  • A working knowledge of CNL’s practices, procedures and organization.
  • Familiarity with the Planning process and Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOs (Order to Operate), RWPs (Radiological Work Permits) and work plans.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specification sheets and detailed instructions.
  • Good working ability with Microsoft suite of software.
  • Familiarity with CNL’s compliance programs.
  • Understanding of waste management principles and volume reduction methodologies.
  • Capable of producing plans and schedules.
  • Site Access security clearance.
  • Canada Labour Code Part II.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
  • Knowledge of CNSC regulations and how they apply to decommissioning activities is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the applicable codes associated with operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of a nuclear site and buildings and how to apply them when performing these activities is required is an asset.
  • Experience in soil excavations and remediation’s would be considered an asset.
  • Willingness to work a 4 day x 10 hour schedule.
  • May be required to work a night shift on specific occasions.

Experience:A minimum of 2 years’ of related technical or maintenance experience and demonstration of strong leadership skills is required. Experience in roads & grounds would be an asset.Education:Completion of Secondary School diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred.Security Clearance Requirements:Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.Why CNL?Does working with a team across Canada to advance nuclear science and technology for a clean and secure world speak to you?
